I don't think that restarting this thread was such a good idea. It's bound to escalate into a flame war once again. Everyone has a biased opinion, one way or the other, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter, 'cause Apple has nothing to do with the Amiga and never will.

The fact that there is no new hardware or new software on the Amiga has forced everyone to look for another home. Some people found it on the Mac, others on Windows, others on Linux, others on ... and others are still looking around.

Although I feel the need to reply to some of the posts in this thread, I'm not going to because frankly it is utterly pointless. This is an Amiga website not an Apple website, regardless of what each of us feels about Apple.

Couldnt my original post have been this simple, without having the wrong type of people in it at all.

That aside, back to my comment:
Yes, the new Mac OSx is good, but, I still believe we(Amiga) would have had it better if they hadnt gone bankrupt!

That also aside, just in case many of you havent seen a part of OS4, heres a nice link displaying screens:

Anybody who remembers my posts from over a year ago when I had to work with OSX running on macs will know I had nothing but loathing for them.

That view, however, was from the perspective of a developer forced by an unrelenting mac fanatic boss to use a basic G4 eMac when the specific application was clearly best suited to an x86 running linux. Problems were encountered that were all but intractable under OSX 10.3 Server that just about any linux distribution you can think of would handle without problems.

For basic home users that don't have certain developer expectations "out of the box", OSX 10.4 on a Core Duo class mac is going to blow themn away. It's fast, has lots of snazzy eyecandy effects (for those that rate such things as important), robust and pretty much does everything you could want a home system to do without any remotely complicated setup required.

Yeah, but OSX 10.3 was absolutely awful... It wasn't until I tried OSX 10.4 that I actually realised I could live with a Mac... And then actually love one :-)

Also OS X on a G4 is not a pleasurable experience by any margin... you need at least two CPU's (OSX is VERY heavily threaded) and a G5 or intel Core cpu to really see what it capable of.

Well, that's the beauty, many of us see the correlation. Many Amiga owners went to Mac because it offered us much of what the Amiga had and was going and that the wintel did nto have and may never have. This site iis Amga centric, but far from baning non-amiga topics. I think it provides us depth and shows we have other interests, even at our local Amiga club, we still talk about other topics. Look at the amount of conversations we have on PS3, Xbox, PC and the like. Some could argue that we cut down those topics, but why. When we have more news, we will want to talk about that news.

@Starke

Commodore going bankrupt was inevitable considering management was getting worse and not better. However, if only they had filed for chapter 11 -- then someone could have bought them like apple -- which would have made more sense than letting a company like gateway get in there.

Additional; Most of us here are involved with the Next Gen AmigaOS projects... AROS, MOS and AOS4... for these projects to grow and be useful, we need to see the Amiga's faults and places where other systems have improved ideas.

When I got into Amiga computers in the early 90s whilst in high school, I had an extreme dislike of the Mac.  What it was based on I can not remember at this point.

Over the years, I grew a brain stem and realised that each platform has it's uses and what it is good for.

I wish that Commodore had never went away.  I have a small video business with a friend.  I would've loved seeing that business running Amigas, just like the ones I worked with in high school at the local cable station.

Instead I wound up, as I had in my personal Life after the death of my A3000, working on PCs.

At the beginning I said I hated Macs from the beginning of my computing adventures.  Even though I 'matured' ( I doubt that actually;-) I am still not fond of a Mac.

With the advent of Vista, my next 2 computers for that business will be Macs, since it is the only other choice I have.

Sorry for rambling...I am not technically alive at the moment.

Almost certainly because Macs were expensive, lacked even basic features of the Amiga and all versions of MacOS before OSX 10.4 were pathetic, pointless and altogether a waste of valuble CPU time.

Yeah, I grew one of those a few years back...

I think that happened to most of us.

If you buy a Mac now, you will actually be buying a NeXT box... and they were cool! The Mac died in 2001, with the release of OSX.

The Modern Mac is a joy to behold.

In general, I believe that Amiga will still be around for a long time yet.

As for the user base, and the supporters, many may return in future when Amiga starts building on their future, and yes, I think they've already started.

Also to note, It wont be too bad to get nice new Amiga systems, and running OS4. HOWEVER, I do believe Bill McWen is not all that of a bad man, instead, he is starting to see the light again for Amiga. PROBLEM, will he act on this light, or be like the other Amiga runners of the past?

Not finished yet, so here we go:

OS5: Apparently Bill McWen wants OS5 to run on any modern PC, and then to have it be capable to run on any other platform, or for those who so choose, only have OS5 running as a standalone OS.

What I am trying to say, OS5, If this is true what Ive heardm, then, the future for Amiga can only get better.

HENCE, As Ive always stated since coming onto the forums, and outta my shell, AMIGA is not at all dead, but I think they've come full circle, so the Future should be looking bright indeed if thats true!

Also, one last thing, maybe in future future, like OS^, may well start running on new Amiga systems again, as well as PC and macs!

Who knows, but if OS4 Is the last OS to only run on Amiga made Systems, then it is a must for me, along with many other supporters to get the last made Amiga system in history.(and im not talking about emulation, but standalone)

But I do Hope that, even with OS5 supposedly being able to run on any PC, that Amiga(other companies) still make new Hardware and Amiga systems, and allow the ideas of other hardware companies, who do not wish to follow the current trend, of, well, if my computers too slow, Ill update my ****** or whatever, but rather, damn, I got a 3 year old computer, or 5 year old Amiga computer, and once I installed the new OS, I was able to run the new Software for Amiga's out there!

Cheers! 8-)  8-)

And may the Amiga start prospering soon once again, and flourish!
AMIGA will rise!
