It would surely be worth installing IDEFix97.lha (Aminet) on your 1200, wouldn't it?

After that your CD useage should be straightforward.

That maybe because at sometime a program has replaced your WB installer with its own version, which sometimes happens. Check your C directory has an installer in it. (A file called installer). If it hasn't copy the one from your WB disks in there. If it has, rename it to InstallerXXX, then copy your WB version in there.

Hopefully that will sort it.

Cool. If you like, just click once on the IDEfix icon and then select Information from your Workbench Icons menu. That will show the path that IDEFix is using to try and find Installer. Often worth a look with these things.

Doesn't 'Installer' need to be called 'Installer' rather than 'InstallerXXX' when it's in the C directory?

Exactly right, but you are taking this file out of the loop for now. By renaming it, it won't be found by IDEFix, IDEFix will find the version that you copy across from your Workbench disk, right? Or you could get the one from Aminet that the poster directed you to in the other thread, but for now, I'd go for your Workbench version.

Renaming is preferable to deleting for obvious reasons.

Hang on.... I have an idea there was some sort of issue with the Installer command on some version of WB3.0 like it wasn't included! I've just checked my ancient floppies and it doesn't appear to be there. If yours isn't - use the link that chap gave in the other thread.

Any probs - come right back.  :)

Installer is on the Install disk, not the Workbench disk. I'm not even sure if the system install copies it over. It was probably assumed that any program being installed would ship with its own copy...

My little wallet of OS3.0 disks did not come with the install disk, it had a slot for it, but there were only the 5 disks included.

Having said that, the 1200 did not have a hard drive cradle in it initially either. Boy, those pesky Commodore guys. :)

Installer IS in the c: drawer on the install disk, even on WB 3.0! A little bit old, indeed. Prefer to download installer433 instead.

An Amiga with ROM 3.0 won't accept OS3.5, nor 3.9. At least you make a "tweak": reckick an image of ROM 3.1, then install OS3.9. But how do you rekick a 3.1 image if you don't OWN the ROM? :-?

CD-ROM drives are very picky. Installing OS3.9 in a WinUAE machine, then put hd back into Amiga will make some troubles::inquisitive:

 - After installing OS3.9 in peecee, move the CD-ROM icon from devs:dosdrivers to storage:dosdrivers;

 - In the Amiga side uninstall and reinstall IDEFIX97 with the CD-rom unit attached to the Miggy.:juggler:

Don't bother with buffered IDEs. I use a self-done 4ways IDE unbuffered for years now, with 2 hd, a CD unit and a CD-RW with any problems.

Peace be on you.....
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.
