« on: February 11, 2007, 03:30:07 PM »
Hi all,
I know there are some USB PCI cards for the Amiga that work fine, but are there any out there that say for example for PC`s that can be used on the Amiga that acutaly work?

I know of OpenPCI software, I think its called? That some people have got to work.

But I know of one or two that have got some PC USB cards to work on there Mediator boards.
But what make and chip set are they ?

Does any one know?

I can only speak for Prometheus users, and (with the firmware upgrade being available) I can only recommend NEC USB2 cards.
They are a few EUR more expensive than the cheaper VIA or ALi chipsets, but usually work more reliable. Avoid VIA and ALI, they tend to make troubles, I never got them working stable in Prometheus.

I have several NEC cards here from testing, from different manufacturers, but no difference is noticeable.

NEC chip card use D720100A or D710101 chips.

I have tried to use a USB PCI card with NEC D720100AGM chip  in both a Mediator and a G-Rex without success. I do not know if the GM added to the NEC chip makes a difference though.

Comparing PCIInfo output from the USB card I have, and the PCIInfo output from a Spider USB card reveales that the main ID string is different between the two cards, so most likely this is the reason for it not to work. Would have been nice to have a 10 EURO USB card for my Mediator.

Yes its most anoying to find that you cant buy a cheap PC USB PCI card that will run on the Amiga.
And so yet again we have to pay out something like at least £45.00 give or take for a USB card with CD rom that will run on the Amiga.

Cant some one from some place make a chip that will have most of the drivers on to take about any USB card for the Amiga?

Its just the drivers right?
