Wireless Joystick/Pad???
« on: February 11, 2007, 08:15:32 AM »
Anyone know if such a device exists for Amiga?  That is besides the ridiculous Atari ones with the giant aerial sticking out of it.
Any projects of this nature around?
When my new machine is complete it will have wireless Joystick,  Mouse and Ethernet.  I'd love to have a wireless joystick as well  :-D

It couldn't be too hard to convert a playstation wireless controller could it? You could use the aminet controller hack on the receiver end? It's something I'm wanting to try but haven't had time to start yet... I've only had my amigas for 2 or so weeks and I'm building up the parts bins still.

I heard something about people getting those Wii wireless Pads working with PC's.  I don't have the knowledge required to write code for a PIC and design a "USB > Amiga Joyport" Adaptor, but it would be nice to have something similar to the keyboard and mouse hacks.  I believe the USB thing is considerably more complicated than a PS2 mouse or Keyboard, so that might be why it hasn't been attempted by anybody. Or has it??

I haven't really been keeping up with current technology, I kind of gave up on it all in disgust after various happenings on the Playstation forum I helped run.
I'd assume though (assumption being the mother of all @#$%-ups, but even so) that it would be far easier to build an adapter for a PSX style controller with it's multiple signal lines than it would be for a USB device. I think the hex for the PIC is bundled in the archive for the PSX hack.
Logitech also do a nice range of wireless keyboard and mouse packs which plug in via the PS2 ports, it might be easier to make a PS2 adapter and get one of those packs. They work quite well with a wintel, I'm using one on the monster at the moment. They're relatively cheap too.

usb is a comunication standard and has arbitration autoconfig and all kinds of other nasties that amigians have wanted for a long time. the usb stuff we have are problematic at best especially with drivers.

it would be far easier to setup a ps controller than a pc one
Oh yeah?!?
Well your stupid bit is set,

The keyboard and mouse (PS/2) is just done. Simply use the SAME HACK to any other PS/2 hack!

Simply like that! :-D
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

I would suggest trying a Sega Genesis Wireless controller.  Since the Genesis controller is an expanded version of the Atari joystick, it should work without any kind of hack.

@Belial6

Ahh, that sounds promising, thanks, I will keep my eye's open for one.

@rkauer

I don't think that a regular PS2 hack would work, I can't see how???
The signals from a Joystick are not the same as the mouse.  The PIC in the Ps2m project for example, interprets incoming PS2 mouse movement code and converts it appropriately by outputting the VH, VQ etc.. seperated movement information to the corresponding Amiga Mouse port inputs/pins.
Can't see how I could do anything like that unless I go do a course in PIC programming and get a better handle on data values that a Joystick/CD32 controller puts out.

I just wanna build or hack something, not design it.  I'd be old and grey by the time I got to use it.   :lol:

If you use a PS2 mouse hack with the logitech wireless mouse for instance, it should work perfectly... you'd just be plugging the mouse side of the receiver into port 1 and all should be a-ok because the hack is decoding the signals from the PS2 mouse receiver. I can't see a problem with it.
The keyboard side can be connected via the PS2 keyboard hack, same thing.

Yep PS2 mouse and keyboard hacks do work, no probs.  But I wanna Joystick/Pad that's wireless as well.
I think this thread has got a bit confused.  Or is it just me  :lol:

lol

You can do both, hack port one to take the PS2 mouse and port two to take the joystick? Perhaps adapt something so that you can use either a PS2 mouse in port one or a joystick?

The A1200 board I was using (Rev F?) has the Lyra adaptor for PS2 Keyboard added, and I have built the PS2 Mouse hack, which all works nicely.  I added the mouse hack to the 10 pin header on the A1200 Mobo, just behind the mouse port. Used a ribbon cable to the circuit and socket, which is mounted on a plate inserted in a Card Slot position, on the rear of the case.
When I have a joystick plugged into the mouse port, the mouse hack ignores it.  But when I have a real amiga mouse attached to the mouse port, the mouse hack stops working.
At least if I wanna 2 player game I don't have to pull the mouse and replace joystick, just leave the joystick plugged in all the time.  :-)

Sounds like you should be able to just plug in wireless mouse and keyboard then! The model I keep raving on about is the logitech cordless desktop ex-111.

I just brought an Ex500 for a try.  The keyboard didn't work with the Lyra interface.  The mouse worked with the PS2m hack though.  I currently have a working wireless keyboard and mouse for it, but I dont really like the keyboard and would like to get a better one.  I have also brought another elcheepo wireless keyboard and mouse setup and again the keyboard didn't work with the Lyra.  Wish I could find one that does.

Just checked out the EX-111 nice board.  It does state that it's PS2, so it might work.  The EX500 had both USB and PS2.  The keyboard had to be connected through a USB>PS2 adaptor, so I'm not surprised that it didn't work.
