subway working device list?
« on: February 10, 2007, 07:05:38 PM »
hi all,

i'm looking for a device list. you know, named components that work with the subway... particularly cd roms and hard disks. (external boxes.) oh and if usb to ethernet devices work. and how hard it is to get them working. also what kind of speed do you get. i'd be thinking of using a 40 and fast ram... thanks.
i will bless them that bless you. i will curse them that curse you. gods promise to his chosen people the jews.

I've been wondering this, myself. Whether or not it was feasible to use a usb flash drive as a hard drive, for your miggy?  :-o  :-D

No, you could not use an external HD on Subway: Hds take more than 500mA from the port. Only if you use an external PSU for it.

Ethernet to USB have NO DRIVES, sorry. :boohoo:
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

Actually, I want to use a SD Card. I'm just wondering if I can use an internal reader or not and make it a bootable drive.

Poseidon 3.4+ has the pegasus.class driver

From Chris' docs

Code: [Select]
"This is a class  driver  for  a  whole  series  of  USB->Ethernet  adapters
manufactured  by  Melco, Belkin, SMC, ADKtek, LinkSys, IO-Data, Billionton,
Netgear, D-Link, LANEED and various others, that use the Pegasus or Pegasus
II  chipset."
On schedule, and suing

I know that some sd cards work and my seagate-120G usb drive use to work but if you are using the updated poseidon trident from v2.X,then you must register, I haven't yet so I can't verify if that will mount  it.  I don't know if usb's are mountable since they would have to be programmed very early in the s/startup-sequence assuming you're using 3.9os

If you look on the Posiedon website, there is as complete a list as you're likely to get. IIRC www.platon42.de

You need to have a registered version of Poseidon but for the Subway, it's not too bad. I successfully used several flash drives & an external 80gb USB drive.

Every device which identifies itself as massstorage can be used with Poseidon. I didn't yet hear of any external HDD, card reader, thumb drive etc. which didn't work with Poseidon. Some digital cameras don't work because they don't mount as massstorage. But most of them do work.

and make it a bootable drive

You cannot boot from USB drives unless the drivers are in a flash ROM or something. But if your Amiga has a flash ROM, it also has Zorro slots and in this case you shouldn't use a Subway but rather a Highway or an Algor USB card.

However, you could first boot from your internal HDD, make the drivers resident and then reboot from your USB drive.

Bye,
Thomas

Most of my HDDs are other than system disks, and no, they're not used (just) for backups.

Okay, here's the thing. I have  a barebones A500, with an A590 and A570 (CDRom??), along with it, on it's way to me, right now! :) I had intended to make a retro gaming machine, with an a1200 I bought years ago, but then Amithlon came out, so I sold the A1200, to buy Amithlon. That's besides the point, though. I have access to my old A500's 030/50 Derringer. I wanted to put following things in this A500:

CSA Derringer 030/50 w/ 32MB of Ram.
Jen's A500 clockport adaptor, piggy-backed to the 68K slot on the Derringer.
A Subway USB (clockport version)
Jen's KickFlash (I was under the impression they're selling them now? If not, I'll need a rom switcher)

That leaves me one, open port for something like a flash drive or SD card, internally and then I can mount the USB brackets to the back of the A500, so I can use the USB ports, on the back of the A500, for Mouse and Wireless. I wanted to use SD cards, so I could have a pullout drive, in theory, for 1.3 and 3.9.  :-D

Well, you can't use USB with KS 1.3 I'm afraid.

No. The 1.3 drive is on the A590 that's coming with it, assuming it's got updated roms. I need to ask TJ if he, by chance, has copies of those.  I want to be able to have a 3.9 Install, on a SD card, that's swappable, in the back or side. Not sure how to design the insides, yet.
