A4000 and CV64/3D
« on: February 08, 2007, 03:31:17 PM »
Well, I finally got my A4000. It is a Rev. B, SuperBuster 11, A3640 version 3.1. This is my first 4000, and I gotta say that it sure isn't built like my 2000...

Anyway, I moved my brand new CV64/3D that I got from Software Hut from my A2000 to the 4000. It is made by DCE, and I've heard that there are problems with it on ZIII bus, but I thought that the Buster 11 would fix that?

The board shows as working on the early startup menu. I tried running it with CGX3, CGX4, and P96, and every time the monitor driver is started, it Gurus with 8000 0004... Is there anything else I can do, besides getting one made by Phase 5?

I tried all the slots, and did use the CGX3 floppies that came with the board, to no avail. I don't think I want to be using CGX2 though :) A little too old...

Look at he link. there is a 3Dinstall.dms or similar name,
these are the drivers of phase5 not CGX and it works. my system has the OS3.9 If don`t work try with a clean installation.

I think I may owe you a big thanks.  I too bought the CV643D from SH and installed it in my A2000 running OS3.9.  After installing the Cybergraphics 3 disks, the whole system cratered and now gurus during bootup.  I have the Cybergraphics 4 CD, but obviously the guru stops me installing it.  I've been on a business trip for 2 weeks and should be home in another 2.  I'll download those original install disks and give them a try.

Cheers,

rrete: Got ya, I will try it, but the board I got did come with disks. Anyway, at this point I am willing to try anything :)

Darrin: CV64/3D should work with no problems on ZII bus. Sounds to me like CGX3 might not like OS 3.9 maybe. I would definitely install Picasso96 or CGX4 (then remember to update it with 42R6 from Aminet) If right now the machine is not booting, just hold both mouse button to get into the early startup menu, then choose Start with No Startup Sequence - just make sure that you are connected to the standard Amiga video. You can then remove the CVision monitor file from Devs/Monitors, and reboot.

if you use BB2 with OS3.9 be sure to have the latest CGX4 updates and the newest 68040/060 libs.

polbit2:
Maybe your install disk are not the same that mine.
the system crash when the system loads the file on devs/monitors called Cybervision643D or Cybervision3D even manually. I think that the libs and another files of the installation are ok then if you put away that file of that drawer the system boots normally, but in pal or nstc (here pal you nstc) so that file is the problem and if you install the original drivers must work if not i can send you my devs/monitor file and put it there and reboot with that file.
A problem now i working and the amigas are at my new home and still have no ..... internet
 :boohoo:
maybe tomorrow.

rrete: Thank you for making me try it again, it works!! I took the A4000 completely apart, cleaned everything, then put it back together, re-partitioned and re-formated the HD, and put a clean WB 3.1 on it. I then used the original CGX3 disks that came with the CV64/3D, and it worked like a charm. I then upgraded to CGX4.3, and it has been working ever since.

As far as the speed though, I'm a little underwhelmed. I assumed that Zorro III and 040/25 would give a nice speed boost over my A2000 with 030/50. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be any faster. I haven't really tried very high resolutions at 24-bit, but 800x600x16 seems to be just a tad faster. It's not slow by any means, but makes me wish I could try a Cybervision PPC on a PPC accelerator board :)
