Virtual reality
« on: February 08, 2007, 05:43:04 AM »
Around 92 or maybe 93 I remember seeing the latest Amiga at the time ( 3000 4000 ???? dunno ????)  With a virtual reality headset and a gun . It had heaps of wires attached to it and looked like it was forward vision and 90 degrees either side view only (never saw the guy look backwards !) I didnt get to see much cause it was pretty crowded . Anyone have any info on this ? I think the game was like doom ????

I wonder if you could just attach a regular video cable to that head display or if they have some special connectors.

So why don't you buy the one on Ebay with the huge shipping costs, check it out, and let us know - that way, next time one comes up, we wouldn't have to risk our cash if they are some custom interface that renders it junk ;) Not that anything like that has happened to me before ...

I remember trying this thing out when they opened a VirtualWorld center here in Orlando...I was all excited - you know, an Amiga used in cutting edge future technology       (hey, it was 1992, who knew commodore was going to go in the toilet in twenty or so months and that VR wasn't going to take off?)

Anyway, I specifically remember: the induced myopia of those two twenty-five cent piece sized lenses, the ear-piercing rattle of the blown speakers in the headset, and feeling like I'd just strapped a hat on my head that had a bowling ball glued to the brim in the front.

No thanks! :P

Back away from the EU-SSR!

Man, I wish Amiga would make a new one of these, so that we can play Prey in multiplayer mode, or perhaps a ps3 game, or even a newer Amiga game on it.
Imagine all the people lining up now for it, now it would sell, as now people are wanting this, Lanning, but in virtual reality.

Cant wait, maybe this is what we should hint to Amiga.

Cheers

MAybe this would help them Rise! 8-)  8-)

What about those Escom i-Glasses that Gloom Deluxe supports. They split the image into two fields for each lense or something.

The Nintendo Wii controller looks something like Virtuality, if they made a virtual reality visor for the Wii it would be quite amazing (especially since Nintendo experimented with this with the Virtual Boy).

Hopefully not like Rise of the Robots!

Ture, but then, as the other two arent doing it at the moment, Amiga should quickly step in and take that market.

Well, since Amiga Inc. are not going to go into hardware any time soon a cool idea would be to port AmigaOS to Wii. After all, OS4 is coded for PPC and the Wii is a PPC based machine, surely it wouldn't be that hard?

There has been talk of Amiga games appearing on the Wii's virtual console so why not the OS?

I think maybe Nintendo would feel threatened by this though, they could lose revenue (license fees).

Imagine Speedball updated for Wii though... real life punch ups! It'd be Actual Reality!

HYPERSPEED:

Wake up fatigue kills.

Why on earth does Amiga inc have to go into hardware, when Amiga inc can get other partner companies to build hardware for them, and other companies to do the software development?

Have you all gone off your nut?
Think about it, If I want to make a plastic mouse, I would employ people to work on a machine, get someone to build the tool/s required, etc.etc. And that is exactly what Amiga inc are doing, they are employing, in a strange way, without necessarily having to pay for it, other companies to do the hardware, software and whatever else they require.

Anyway, Im not having a go at any of you, but Amiga inc dont have to go into hardware, there are companies wiling and doing it for Amiga Inc, and then hoping that Amiga Inc will agree to take the hardware, and Personally, I think it would be silly if Amiga Inc didnt take it.

Either way, Amiga inc has agreed to put the Samantha board into production for the Amiga OS4, made by Hyperion.

OK then,

Cheers.

P.S.And please to all out there wanting to comment, do three days worth of research, and maybe then you'll decide to not comment and actually understand what is happening behind the public scene.
AMIGA will rise!

Some sucker on Ebay paid some money for that crap - how long before they are on here asking, "Uh, how can I get it to work".
