Looking for specific C64 intro tune; asking here for reason
« on: February 08, 2007, 03:42:40 AM »
I have searched for this without luck.  I'm asking here because my comfort level with this community seems to exceed the necessity to break into another forum to ask a "stoopid noob" question.  And I know that some here are involved in the scene already.

Now the question: I'm looking for the music, or the name at least, to cracktro/intros produced by Abyss.  I cannot remember the musician, but I do remember the name Doppleganger as a member.

I believe that the tune I am looking for is in the intro to the Great Giana Sisters released with Super Mario Bros graphics in the US.

I like this piece so much that I took the time to punch it in as a ring tone on my old SonyEricsson T60d, T61d, and T62u cell phones.  I can hum a few bars if it would help ;-)

TITLE: Giana Cracktro [from Amiga MOD]
 ARTIST: Pink / Abyss
COMMENT: "This little piece was finished during North Party 10 while I was a
bit drunk, I actually finished assembling compoplayer and packing all
the stuff at 18:21 on Saturday but organizers stated that deadline
hits at 16:00 :) I also tried to make the tune polished earlier (I was
sobre in the morning , you know) but I wanted to use Goat Tracker
v2.54 with C64 connected to my old Toshiba Tecra 510 CDT via PC64 but
some guys have taken out monitor I used as speaker :D so later I
started from scratch on Viper's high-end laptop and tracked this in
about 30 minutes with ReSID :(" (RS)

This one?

ps Play the full HVSC on your mobile using Scenetone.

Works great on my N80.  It lets me render a chosen SID to a short WAV and set it as my ringtone. :-D

I am so sad!

edit:

Download a 60 second .ogg rendering here

Thanks, but I might have been wrong.  I think the release was "Super Mario Bros", which was just Giana Sisters with new graphics.  This isn't the song I'm thinking of.

Now, where did you perform your search?  I'd be happy to spend some of my own time looking there.

Try the HVSC (High Voltage SID Collection) - if it's not there, it's probably not anywhere!

A 60Mb download gets you pretty much every SID song ever made!

@InTheSand

Have it, and went through it.  Not only did it take a long time, but it was seriously annoying to my girlfriend.  :-)

@Mikerucio

ACTUALLY, I would like to make a band arrangement of it, and I would love to get in touch with the original author.  I remember it in such detail I could easily recreate it from memory.  (Ah, if only I could flush a lot of the memory I have!  Is there an "avail" command for HumanOS?) ;-)

Heh! Girlfriends don't seem to like SIDs (or worse, AY-3-8912 chiptunes) - I usually get some comments about listening to "beepy old crap" from mine!  :-)

I pasted that info from the STIL.txt in the HVSC DOCUMENTS folder.

Maybe it would be easier to google/p2p search for a D64 of the cracked game in question, or failing that brace yourself fo the barrage of insults you´ll probably get by asking for the D64 on a c64 forum.

And, if you add the url of that D64 archive to this page, someone might just rip the SID file from the crack intro for you. :-)

I can probably also have a go at ripping the tune to a SID file later today :)

HAHA!  Yeah, if my memory serves correctly on the source of the song, that would be pretty darn neat.  I'm just getting up for work, so I'll be having a go at this later today.  Thanks to everyone!

Ok, I ripped the tune for you as a SID-file. I have no idea who made the tune, so I didn't add any credits.

http://britelite.infa.fi/abyss.sid

Enjoy :)

EDIT:
And remember to play it at NTSC-speed if it sounds too slow.

The tune is the titletrack for a game called Rebel, and can also be found on HVSC under the GAMES directory. :)

I love reviving threads 10 months old :-)

Anyway, I wanted to thank you for ripping the SID for me: this IS the song I am looking for, and the information on the original source will be helpful in tracking down the author.

I actually found the game with the Abyss intro and used Vice to record capture the sound and convert it into an MP3, but this SID is MUCH better.  Thank you again.

BTW, I'm using DeliPlayer2 to play MODs and SIDs in Windows.  Does anyone use a better one, maybe one that actually allows me to change timings?  Also, what about a Java (specifically J2ME) SID player?

[edit]: I just found the timing controls in DeliPlayer :-P
