Amiga Magazines
« on: February 07, 2007, 01:22:14 PM »
Dear Peoples,

I know everyone here knows about Amiga Magazines, atleast, thats what I would expect, but anyway, before the good Amiga magazines die out totally, maybe for those who arent yet, may want to support the publishers.
Amiga gazeete is ok, atleast Im more of a mag man.
SO
I went Total Amiga(UK), good service too, and willing to answer emails promptly. Now I just bought two recently from the company, so I will be expecting them to arrive either friday or monday.
Heres The Link:
http://www.totalamiga.org/issue25.html

One can also get all the back issues up to about 22 I think it was on a CD, and view them all from PDF format.
OR
You can look at some of the recent back issues online, it may be all I havent checked that.

In general Amiga Mags are alive and well in:
UK, Germany, Usa, Italy
the other countries, only have one mag usually left in their country:
Czech, Japan, Denmark, Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, Sweden.
One country hangin on:
Australia, the Amiga gazeete
And the others that had it, dead:
Canada, Norway, Spain(dead 4 now)

I know these people with Amiga's in these countries will ofcourse be buying em online if they still want mags, but I just thought Id point out, that Amiga is still Alive in this form also, and It will grow, If Bill McWen, the three joined Italian companies, Hyperion, etc, etc, all continue to strive and work together, then new developers and companies will start investing also, that is the plan anyway.

Enjoy, for some, the new found knowledge, but for most, old news.

Cheers 8-)  8-)
AMIGA will rise!

By memeory I only found one, from a German Amiga magazine. Lucky for me I can ead german, but I was hoping to get a MAgazine in English, for some friends that had a Sampler CD that comes with it.

Do you have some real news you want to share with us about any of the people or companies you mentioned above working together?

I only wish it were true! :boohoo:
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

AMIGADAVE:

Why dont you do three days of research into Amiga, and look at many sites, and then in time you will learn which sites can be moreso trusted than others in information.
ALSO
While doing this, you will learn a lot of things you obviously dont think are true.
BUT IT IS TRUE, and I am trying to give truthful information here, I learnt the hardway initially, when everyone here was dissing me, but now I can see, that they know Ive bee doing my research.
AND
No, I think you should look it up, youve got the net, why should I always give people website links,I am a truthful person, I Hate liars, but I dont mind people who say something, but it isnt their own knowledge, but knowledge obtained, sometimes this knowledge obtained may be wrong.
BUT
In more than one instance I read about how Amiga Inc has partnerships with various companies, Amiga is growing, maybe not within the community yet, but as a Company they are getting somewhere.
Hopefully when their systems start coming onto the Market, it Amiga will start growing in the communities.
I THINK
Amiga should start selling their 2002 stock and even new hardware to second world classed countries, and start building up from there.
After all, if everyone uses Amiga in certain type of countries, atleast Amiga will have a backbone and a steady income to advance their Technologies.

Cheers 8-)  8-)

There are very few mags alive left anywhere sadly...

My favourite English language mags were the Amiga Format (UK) and CU Amiga (UK) but at the time they were really pricey so I couldn't afford them except a few issues now and then.

Also, thanks to a lot of work we have managed to preserve the almost complete collection of the former Italian Amiga Magazine (sometimes judged as one of the "best amiga magazines on the planet") and scan almost every single issue -- which is available on www.amigamagazine.info, and yes, a large portion of the work was done by yours truly. ;-) Yes, the stuff has been published legally.

I would love to be able to do something similar with AF and CU, but sadly I have no funds to buy collections of various issues in order to start scanning them. Not to mention a new scanner, cause thousands of pages of AM killed my current scanner. I'm not even sure how many people would be willing to part with their collection, and a large sum might be required in order to convince them... not to mention pay for the shipping... :-x

Also I have no idea whether those could ever be published - or if indeed there is a way of obtaining any sort of perimission from the current copyright owners. Sigh...

ALENPPC:

Do us all a favour, just buy Total Amiga, Ive written the facts in my original post, on how the current Magazine situation is, and here you go saying all of this, and sounding really negative.

My main man, Negativity will get you nowhere in life.

Cheers. 8-)  8-)

We are not a company, we make no profit, we are just a bunch of Amiga users in Essex, UK that belong to SEAL and are mad enough to take on this task of filling in the gap of no English speaking Amiga printed magazines in the world!

We have a distributor that operates in Canada so that people in North America (USA, Canada etc.) can get the magazine and at a reasonable price due to lower postal costs compared to us sending them over from the UK!

Also we have another team in Poland that translates the English version and distributes there for us.

There is no Dutch Amiga magazine left. The last (and only) commercial venture died somewhere in 97 or 98 I think. There has been a non-profit print mag, but that never really exceeded the clubperiodical level of quality.

Czech, Japan, Denmark, Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia, Sweden.

I doubt the other countries you named have an active mag left, perhaps Poland does. I'll be happily proven wrong though.

Apart from the fact that it doesn't even mention Total Amiga which is the ONLY printed English Amiga magazine!

Yes, I am one of the main contributors, also the treasurer and indeed the whole idea of producing the magazine was my idea, all put together and implemented by my good friend and editor of the magazine Robert aka Rhino.

Because that is what covers the cost of printing a low production run (600 copies) complete with postage! We were also advised to put a little bit on the price so that we could sell to re-sellers at a discount so that they had a small mark up when selling the magazines to their customers.

At the end of the day we make no profit, nobody gets paid anything whatsoever, it's the cheapest we could produce the magazine!

Alenppc: I'm in the same boat as you. A few years ago, I scanned in almost all of my Amiga magazines. (I keep finding a few more in out-of-the-way boxes ;-) ) A friend found me an old scanner with a document feeder, so I ran them through fairly quickly. That scanner is pretty much shot now too.  I sent a lot of dead trees back to the recycler. ;-)  For most of them, the publishers are long gone, although IDG (AmigaWorld) is still around. At least that's the case for the US magazines.

I'd like to make them available, but for that copyright... someone must still own them, and starting to sell them would be the quickest way to find them... and their lawyers. ;-)

You can bet your bottom doller that if you published them they would all appear out of the woodwork with lawyers in tow!

I've got over 100 UK Amiga magazines back at the family home, decaying slowly in the garage. It's been my plan for a while to scan these all in. What I really want to do is scan in the complete set of each magazine, collect the accompanying cover disks, and release it to the world via torrent or whatever. Future Publishing, ex publishers of Amiga Format, Amiga Shopper would probably go crazy if you stuck these on a website, but I figure via torrent or P2P there's not much they can do to stop it. My philosophy is this, by releasing such material into the public domain, it will benefit A LOT more people than it would harm.

RISC OS on RPi
Dreaming of owning another classic.
