Viper 630 on eBay.
« on: February 06, 2007, 10:00:10 AM »
Have a look at this Viper 630 on Aussie eBay is $157au and climbing with 3 days to go. I can believe how high its got considering a comparable A1200 accell might go for $80-90au.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Viper-630-68030-Amiga-600-expansion-and-memory_W0QQitemZ200075641470QQihZ010QQcategoryZ4598QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

BTW: No its not mine.  But If I had an a600 i'd be tempted to bid  :-D

Knowing how many of these ClipOn Accelerator cards have failing connectors I'd be very sceptic to an "AS-IS not tested in some time" auction.

But he/or she says:
Its also the most solid and reliable 68030 available for the A600..!
it was working perfectly prior to storage, and has been kept in its anti-static bag ever since.

So it must be good.  Surely ?
 :-D

He's not gonna say, "it was working fine until the connector broke and I put it into storage"...   :-)

I don't know what planet you live on but a 030 for the A1200 never goes for $80-90AU, try towards triple that price!

A 030 for an A1200 for $80-90AU is quite fair... sure some *cough*blizzard*couth* boards will go for more.

One reason for the conciderably less expencive A1200 accellerator boards compared to A600 is of cause that they are much more common and come in many more flavours and specs. An A600 board, that works, is like finding a needle in the EB-hAYstack.

A second reason might be that many A1200 owners fancey the A4000 and ultimatly end up in that ballpark (upping the prices of these accellerator boards instead). Where's the A600 users tend to do everything in their power to stick by their machine, ignoring things like massive MIPS and RTG, as it holds other values for them. This meens that accellerator boards for A1200 are recycled much more frequently.

Final reason might be that an "Ultimat A600 upgrade" is concidered cooler than an "Ultimat A1200 upgrade" and therefor inspirer more people to try do it than there is actually hardware available to do it with.

Oh so your comparing that purchase nearly two years ago to what the market is forcing today...I will say again for the space cadets in the forum, you will NOT, I REPEAT NOT purchase any form of 68030 accelerator for your Amiga 1200 for anywhere near $90AU in 2007.  Clear now!

I think it's luck to some degree too.  I lost a bidding war on a Blizzard 1230MkIV on AU ebay that went for $245 AU from memory.  I then purchased one a day latter from some dude in Holland, and paid $130 AU for it.  Exact same specs and RAM qty for both boards.   :-)
2 x A1200 Blizzard IV 030@50Mhz
1 x A3000D 030@25Mhz
1 x A2000 030@25Mhz
1 x A2000, 2 x A600
2 x A500

I've lost an auction on Ebay last year for a 1200's Blizzard PPC 603/040 for just ten dollars!:-o

Let me explain: my bid was US$235.00 someone offered 245.00 on the last 5 minutes. When I saw was too late for me. :boohoo:

Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

About half a year ago I sold an Blizzard1240 accellerator for about US$110 (in that price I included a Goliat PSU so the machine could cope with it). Could I get more for it, surtanly, but I didn't want to skin a fellow Amigans just because I could. Fact is if he had offered me less I would probably have accepted as little as US$70-80 for this just cause I didn't need this accessory one bit and I saw how much he needed it to spark new life in his machine.

And I must say the spark in the guys eyes as I said "sure" to the bid and the excitement he showed puting the expansion in his machine was... well... "priceless". :-D

Chill Jimbo,

You're obviously an expert in the field so I bow to your superior argument, albeit requalified from the original point.

I will say, (to all the space cadets out there) if you know how to look, and you don’t fall into the common bid wars you can pick up bargains on ebay.
You need to keep your eyes open and know how to search.
Otherwise you might get frustrated missing out all the time. Frustration leads to fear, fear leads to anger, anger leads to the dark side.

PS: You can also pick up cheap Valium on ebay.....

Brian, I wish there were more Amigans like you...

 :-D
