Hi from Hampshire - UK
« on: February 04, 2007, 06:03:44 PM »
Hi to all Amiga Owners past and present.

Just spent a day downloading Mods written for the fantastic demos that I used to own ( before I was forced to sell my beloved Amiga A500 1Mb 1.2) which was above 3 years ago.  Never occured to me that there was a scene for Amiga lovers and subsquently lost all my demos in the sale .

Anyhow purchased the above mentioned unit in 1989 when it was around the £599 mark but the company that sold it too me had a deal to hard to resist.  Trade in any computer and we will reduce the price by £100.:-P   So into the loft I went and out came my rubber keyed 48k Spectrum which had been sat up there for 3 years after I got my Spectrum 128.  In the post went the computer and my cheque for £499.  16th December 1989 it arrived complete with Deluxe Paint.  First Game I bought was Accolade's Test Drive but as it was an Xmas present I was not allowed to use it for a week.  However couldn't resist so when the parents used to go out I would get it out and play with it.  Plus selling my 128k Spectrum meant that in all my new Amiga cost me £325 which I suppose was not too bad.

Last two games I bought were Wicked and Speedball 2.

Favourite Games - Speedball 1 and 2 + Elite (with the Sara Code was even better)

Worst game - Starfleet (Crap graphics and virtually impossible)

All in all I think when I sold my Amiga there were around 90 - 100 original games and as a complete mug it went for £105 (Doh)

Wrote about 30 Mods and always wanted to send them away but never knew where to send them.  So they ended up in my cheesey AMOS Demo programs.:-P

Hello Amsterdam

Don't know really.  I know the missus (wife) would have a fit if I was to buy one.  Then I have to get the software plus not really a techie type person when it came to the A500.  Mind you saying that a A3000 or A4000 is constructed a similar way to a PC with cards and stuff so perhaps you never know I might find one somewhere that works.

Failing that its UAE as I did keep my original Kickstart 1.2 and 1.3 disks when I sold the Amiga.

At the moment playing around with Mad Tracker and some samples.

I just used to like all the demo's and the race to see who could get the most vectors or bobs working in their demo.

Just out of interest does anyone know what the name of the song was for a 1990 or 91 Mod for a Cebit show that involved a ship flying through space.  Had sort of slap guitar samples. (Probably not the right palce for this question)

Welcome back to the Amiga, and to A.Org!

Sounds like you got your A500 within weeks of me getting mine... However, the shop I bought mine had them with the "new" 1.3 ROM (but only the standard half a meg) for £499, so I didn't need to trade in any of my Spectrums! :-)

The music you're after might be "Cream Of The Earth" - it was used in the Cebit '90 demo. Both the original .mod file and a remixed version are available.

Hi Numpty, please be aware that you can download Cloanto's "Amiga Forever" full emulation package for the Amiga to run on your pc which includes the ROM's. There's plenty of nostalgic reasons to get the full package  :-D
