PC Burning software to Amiga CD Rom
« on: February 04, 2007, 06:05:16 AM »
Now for today’s problem; moving files from My PeeCee based emulator to my other Classic Amigas (With CD ROM Drives)   I'd noticed this before but it was an inconvenience rather than a problem. My PeeCee based ISO2 CD Burner SFW (CD Burner XP Pro 3) cuts any file name suffixes bigger than 3 characters, off.  No apologies, just gone.
All my .info files are cut to .inf. Which is just soooo PeeCee. "I worked a long time on some of those icons too."
Anyway, does anyone have any tips on a PeeCee based burner package that will work with Amiga format file names. I thought they were just ISO2 format.  Either I'm wrong (most probable) or my CD Burn software is tripping.  I also have Nero Express 6.6.
 :-?

Edit: Amiga OS Supports the "AS" extensions (which preserve the Amiga protection bits and file comments)

What are the "AS" extensions ?  Apart from an extension to ISO 9660

I ask a lot of questions don't I..?

I answer them to. Is talking on a forum to yourself a sign of madness ?

Okay I found out AS stands for Amiga Extensions to Rock Ridge.  Gives Posix/Unix standard file names upto 256 character filenames and preserves Amiga file info.

So my new simple question is what PeeCee burner will support ISO RR.. Anyone know?

Well I know for a fact Nero does :-)

I use Nero to burn my Amiga CD32 compilations.

Huh ?.  I'm using Nero Express 6.6 out of Nero Smart Start 6.  Came with my DVD Burner.
How do you get it to burn ISO RR....? :-o

Hi,

I had a similar problem with "GnomeBaker" (the default CD burner app with Ubuntu Linux).

I solved the problem the other way round - have you tried AmiCDFS on your Amiga?

It works well with standard ISO9660 (both standard and with RockRidge extensions), Macintosh HFS, hybrid CDs, audio CDs, etc... Seems much better than the standard CD filing system supplied with OS3.9.

How about packing all the files you want to burn into a single 8.3 archive and then unpack at the Amiga end?
:-)
Dell Precision M20 / Pentium M @2GHz / 1GB DDR2 / 60GB @7200rpm / SXGA+ 64MB FireGL V3100 PCIe
AmiKit 1.2.9 + AmigaOS 3.9 + BB 1+2 / WinAROS

No apologies, just gone.

They're not gone. It's your amiga cd filesystem being unable to read joliet extensions, so it falls back to 8.3.

Like InTheSand said, just use better CD filesystem.

Or alternatively use ISO 9660 Level 2, at least Nero has option for that.

I'm already doing the archive option. It would be handy to keep the files I want on CD in a usable format.
Eg; Mod files in a directory structure with .info files included. I don't necessarily want them on my Amiga hard drive when I can access them from CD permanently.
I know I can burn them that way on the Amiga but I will have to use 2 CDs. 1 to get the files onto the Amiga where I can unarchive them and another to then burn from the Amiga at 2x speed.  A bit of a waste of plastic and time when my pee cee CD runs at ludicrous speed.

I'm using AmiCDFS on my A2000. I'm pretty sure the .info file suffixes are truncated at the source not the destination.  But I will test that out.

Those using Nero 6 for ISO 2, I assume you are talking the full version of Nero.  Does that maintain suffixes greater than 3 characters.?

As always thanks for the responses.
