D is the model number perhaps because its the 4th generation 1084 monitor?

monitors that had a 'P' - had 'Philipps' CRTs
monitors that had a 'D' - had 'Daewoo' CRTs!

the daewoo ones are always newer

the '2' is the seccond revision of those with Daewoo CRTS

Hmmm...... :-)

I bought my 1084S-D in 1985 or 86  (I think) for my
C=64.  Since, I've used it for my A500 then my A3000
then back to switching between my A1000 and A500.
After all these years it still works great.
The case has a little yellowing but the tube has a
good picture and the speakers are still good.
It was an expensive monitor when I bought it but
I guess now I can say it was worth it.
I guess I never really thought about it as long as
it worked.

This has been a great week for me. I think I just saved myself... $80? That's about what these are worth these days, yes? Maybe a bit less.

I think I'll put this one with the 500 and the 1942 with my new 600...

Sadly, all my household's old (80s era) 1084s died a few years back. Probably could have fixed them, now that I look back. Geez, I think we binned 3 at once. Shame.

As for cleaning this new one, I saved even more money by using a small pin, vacuum cleaner and damp tissues instead of Mr. Sheen-type products.

Sob, my old 1084S bit the dust a few years back  Most likely the result of too many trips to the computer club in the back of a station wagon.  I just got an offerot pick up a whole load of A500 stuff including a monitor.  I have accepted same.

I have a 1942.  I don't like it.  It's fine in NTSC but VGA level screens it just sucks.  I suppost I should suck it up and get the Idek Illyama fixed.

Ain't that the truth!  I got a 1084S when I got my A500 in late 90 and it cost me $300.  I think I bought it from Tenex.

ditto 1084S-D2 currently being used for my Gamecube and DVD player. Watching an Adam Sandler flick onit this very moment.

cost me $169 us when I bought it,(possibly safe harbor or some such place) $80 wouldn't touch it now, in fact you may have to pry it from my cold dead fingers some day.

Yeah, the VGA modes are pretty bad, but at least the option is there. They can be hacked to a reasonable state with MonEd. Then again, I can't imagine I'll be doing too much DblNTSC work with a stock 600. I hope I still have that extra Commodore VGA adaptor...

From what I figure, 1084 (even the S models) aren't typically owrth that much, problem with them is not that they're bad screens, but they're all so old that they can go bust at any moment. :-| . I'd be very surprised if any of the remaining functional 1084ses remained functional for another decade.

and, oh yeah, 640x400 interlaced???. Nice TVs but sub par resolution for modern monitors (I sure hope that Amiga Ones don't get distributed with a monitor of that low res)

The D stands for Digital, I'm pretty sure I read that in the manual.
It was designed to accommodate Commodore's crappy Colt PC as well as
an Amiga. I think it could synch up to a 24Khz EGA signal for a
(yeeech!) PC.

nope! the monitors are analogue!  ;-)  the 'D' is for 'Daewoo' and a good CRT it is too!  :-)
