Possible to mount adf files on Amiga
« on: January 30, 2007, 10:03:21 AM »
Hi,

Is there a piece of software that will allow me to mount adf images onto a real amiga. I bought a dvd full of demos and they will only run under emulation. I would like to run them on my machine instead without buying a catweasel.

Was there something included in AIAB once? My memory is vague.

Has anyone tried this :

Thanks all.

@m1screant

You can ofcourse transfer the adfs onto real floppies on your amiga with adf2disk.

Or you can use unadf to unpack the files to harddrive and run them from there.

Not exactly what you asked for, but maby it helps.

Thanks, i was hoping to keep them on dvd and run them from there, but nevermind.

You say unpack and run from hard disk. How does this work?

I use fmsdisk.

Simply make a directory to contain the ADF files, assign it as FMS:, copy your ADF image as FMS:Unit0 and mount FF0:.  Voila, a virtual floppy drive :)
Code 6502 asm or... DIE!!

How about the good old RAD: device? You'll need to edit the MountList and change the HighCyl number to 79 so it has the same amount of tracks as a floppy drive.

I use Tracksaver (aminet disk/misc/tsgui.lha) to write the ADFs to RAD: (or to a physical floppy for that matter). It has a nice GUI and works with anything from Workbench 1.2 and up.

And because it's the RAD: device, you can even boot from it after you've unpacked the ADF to it.

Monami : no, to me it's a nonsense. ADF files were the sons of .DMS files !

Everybody on Amiga could easily convert toons of ADF with 2 or 3 lines (or probably just one line ;) in an amigados shell so why wrote another program ?

Have been tinkering about this thing a while ago. Thought the solution should be something in the shape of an app-icon where you simply drop the .adf (or whatever mountable file) on and a  simple script should take care of the rest. For one reason or another (probably lack of time) I never got to dive into this and give it a go.
Get a SAM, while you can! The new AMIGA is here!

That would be ideal, that way you could leave relevant adf's on cd media. It will be a pain to write to floppy everytime to watch a demo.

amiga_3k : it was wrote 8 or 9 years ago... with various solutions based on FMS or Virtualfloppy (modern RAD: devices)

You could also play with ADF2FMS command (see aminet/disk/misc/) in your scripts !

Most ADF demos and games have non-dos filesystems, so there isn't much point to try to mount them anyway. You probably end up to use them with UAE or write them to real disks anyway. Or convert them for WHD-load images :) But running them from DVD or PC is out of question usually.

pVC is right; mounting a non-DOS disk will get you nowhere in Workbench. For WHDLoad installs it might work but that requires original disks and the adf's on your DVD most likely are pirate/cracked copies.

The program disk-image works fine for DOS disks though; I use to mount adf and dms disks.

I used to use something called "HDF" (I think) years ago - they just showed up as new floppy drives and all you had to do was drop the ADF files into a specific directory and then click a button in the application (I think you had to name the ADFs "Unit1" "Unit2" etc)

Worked fine for me

If you want to play games & demos off the CD you'll have to use WHDload.

Some people have made CDTV / CD32 demo & game WHDLoad discs which would work for you.

If you use WHDLoad, register it. It costs almost nothing and the WHDload people are good lads.
