Oh and whilst my original A500 (with battery leakage) merely appears a vague off-white the other looks like it just lost a fight with a vat of custard :-D

Is that traditional custard or the English variety???

If we're going by colour then either :-D but I was thinking of the Bird's English Custard at the time ;-)

Checked mine and to no surprise it was leaking, but it wasn't that bad. Had some fuzz on the battery ends  and some leakage on the board and the inside of the heat shield. Memory was working fine and was saving system time but I decided to do away with it completely. Attaching some pictures to assist with your cleanup.
