Is there a different iPhone elsewhere in the world?

Over here its been slated, way behind current generation phones and expected to be totally blasted by the new devices due next month....

But then, what do I care? All I need from a phone is the abillity to make calls and text. Camera? MP3? video? organiser. No thanks. I just want a simple phone.

I suspect the iPhone uses an embeded PPC, that kind of CPU would be ideal for such a device... though I would probably choose one of the MIPS devices... but apple might have got a sweet deal on XScales from intel (even though they don't own the core assets anymore).

Sources suggest that the iPhone does indeed use an ARM CPU... though not the Xscale, they have gone with Samsung, who supply the iPod's ARM CPU... I'm not surprissed about the use of an ARM, and I'll bet Apple get a sweet deal from Samsung by shifting such lage numbers... but I didn't know Samsung had a powerful enough chip in their product range, time to research!

-Edit- Wikipedia calims a Cortex-A8, which would be powerful enough!
