Apple now have the holy grail of Operating Systems... one single system that is scalable from a handheld up to a server.

That, I think, is the true importance of this device...

LOL

I think it's funny that the same crowd that constantly blasts modern operating systems like Windows is singing praise for a 500 dollar telephone that perhaps has the most feature creep and software bloat the world has ever seen.

I just can't wait for my new iPhone. Girls will be impressed when I show them the smooth polished surface implanted with my face grease.

Hey, who is gonna be the first to suggest that people should write their apps in assembler on the iPhone?

How do you know it will feel bloated? Features do not equal bloat. Every seen a Blackberry? This should stomp the Blackberry. IMO this is much more than a phone.

In my oppinion WinXP doesn't feel bloated but people complain about it constantly. I'm sure the iPhone will be very responsive, if it wasn't it wouldn't sell. And it's going to be a lot more fun to develop applications for iPhone than say a trio. PalmOS is a pain in the butt to dev on.

It a Quad Band GSM phone, it'll work in about 220 countries and on Cingular and Tmobile in the US.

It's worth it just for the keys !!

Your eyes get real crappy as you get older !!

I'm not interested in the ipod style music player.

I think I read that Uk release is 4th quarter.

I've got time to start saving my pennies then.

oh.. And the fact it's NOT Microsoft Anything is naturally a major bonus (to me)

He did say all that gizmo technicality stuffies is patented 220 times and made sure to say that they will defend the patents. But, a cheap knockoff could be a squishy push button screen (like those universal remotes) that doesn't do video. Not really a knockoff, but if someone saw them side by side and one was 350 dollars less, the uninformed grandparent would buy it for their hip teenage grandkids. :-)

@stopthegop

you can spend 399 instead and avoid the herpes at the same time, or, what's likely going to happen anyway, you can get a free one with a service plan, just like you did with your samsung.

who's going to give you herpes anyway?

@weirdami

All the prices listed were with service plan.  I'd guess they'll drop, but they won't be free for some time.
