I WANT ONE!

I see Apple coming out with these types of things, iPod, iPhone, etc... and wish Commodore management had been better as I could have seen Amiga technology doing all these same things.

Ah well...
Amiga - The fun computer!

Amiga 500 - 3MB, A590, 250MB HD, SupraTurbo28.
Amiga 1200HD - 32MB, 4GB CF-Card, GVP 68030-40Mhz.
Amiga 600HD

I have never owned anything other than either a work Nextel or a cheapo cell phone. I have never even thought about buying a super fancy phone.

I WANT AN iPHONE! :-D

@DonnyEMU

I watched the keynote iphone intro dealy video thing. Did you see it? Can you tell me if what you have is as fast as how the iphone looks like it might be? That was the cool thing, really, that it seemed to zip right along.

I watched the keynote, and several things struck me about it.. One if it's a full OSX implementation doesn't that really LIKE to have and USE a lot of memory (like a gig or more just for the OS). And doesn't that kinda limite storage of media if it's combined?

I can put a 2 hour movie on a 128MB miniSD card on my phone and it plays back nicely (24/30fps) with full sound.. I don't see the interface as that revolutionary, call me old fashioned but I like phones with a button that I don't have to look at while dialing to know where they are..

-Don

PS I'd also note that right now, most everything I can do with 2 keypresses and it does support voice recognition if I choose to use it.

Specs look good.

I'm even prepared to join Starfleet Academy to get my hands on one of these!

@DonnyEMU:
I don't think that's old fashioned. I think Apple may have underestimated the importance of tactile feedback in normal phone use. I regularly operate my phone in my pocket when I've got my headphones plugged in.

Mind you, this device is aimed at a specific segment and it blows away everything else in that market. I could easily throw away 3 separate devices I use daily if I had one of these.

My fave bit is in the small print on the iPhone page... "This device has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commisssion...  may not be offered for sale.... until authorization is obtained."

Apple now have the holy grail of Operating Systems... one single system that is scalable from a handheld up to a server.

That, I think, is the true importance of this device...
