Apple italk phone...
« on: January 09, 2007, 06:40:26 PM »
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Apple Computer CEO Steve Jobs on Tuesday unveiled a new mobile phone... bla bla bla... Jobs said Apple's iPhone would "reinvent" the telecommunications sector and "leapfrog" past the current generation of hard-to-use smart phones... bla bla bla bla.....

"Every once in a while a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything," he said during his keynote address at the annual Macworld Conference and Expo. "It's very fortunate if you can work on just one of these in your career. ... Apple's been very fortunate in that it's introduced a few of these." ... bla bla bla bla....

Apple shares jumped 5 percent on the announcements. ...bla bla bla bla....

if you go over to

or for a .mov file to

http://www.devilducky.com/media/46492/

you can even see a mockup of the phone and a spec commercial.
The interesting thing is that the music that is playing on the background says "do you believe, what you see?" and this remainded me of something oddly related to amiga..

this is really funny, what do you people think?

P.S. Even though i'm no apple fan, i really like the idea of an apple smartphone similar to an ipod. Let's see if it will be my next phone!

For me it needs to have an intuitive interface.

But this looks awesome.  Can't wait to see the specs for it...

Looks nice, but $599 with a 2 year prison sentence?

(Not to mention Apple's quality issues...)
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Hmm.... The demo model on Apple's page is Cingular branded.  I might have to check it out as a possible replacement to my simply terrible Motorola device I've got from them, now.  (The prison sentence on that thing is up in a few months...)

Until this, I had been thinking about HTC TyTN.  Which, of course, is cool on its own.... How many phones can run UAE?  ;-)

Looks nice!

But I wonder how DRM-crippled it's going to be? I guess there's no hope of it appearing as a "mass storage device" for simple drag-n-drop of audio and video content?

And I bet Google Maps chews through data allowances like nobody's business!

Hey it's not like we all didn't see this coming. I am glad the majority posts are a wait and see attitude here so far. Too often on Amiga forums do Apple's products get a free "PASS"..

Personally I have had a windows smartphone and a PocketPC phone for the past couple years. The PocketPC does run UAE quite nicely.. It's fun to doodle on DPAINT III with it..

I would just say there isn't anything that is very revolutionary here with the Apple iPhone that we don't have already in other devices, they just aren't "branded" Apple or Apple iTunes.

I have been watching TV shows on my Microsoft SmartPhone for sometime downloaded from my media center pc, and I do mean content from every major network. Windows Media Player is built-in so I can play MP3s, and other formats and I am really not locked into Apple's proprietary formats.. I also have Skype for pocketpc so voip and wifi phone functionality is already there. I also have a more than adequate web browser (IE) and I can install just about any program from the pocket pc library that I want. I think it's cool Apple is merging the phone and the ipod, but honestly they'll have lots of competition..

As far as AppleTV goes, can we say XBOX 360, plus add games. They do the same things nothing new here. Xbox has it's own video service already with content from all major TV networks available for stream or download. I just watched "Supernatural" the other day and downloaded an episode to my 360's hard drive. I could also stream content from my media center pc over the wireless network too..

I think these are cool products but what it signals is not just Apple engaging other markets (the cel phone), and TV. they will be competing with other companies like Comcast, ATT, Microsoft and others to deliver programming over a set top box.

I doubt that the cable industry and telecom markets are gonna look at this thing lightly.. If Apple could do what it's done with taking over the music download industry, with video and programming, then they just might have an edge in the markket..

However all this home integration means someone's gonna need a server OS to keep track of media, etc. Microsoft is announcing "HOME SERVER" at CES.. We are in for a battle in new places..

Well.... I love Apple, and everything that goes with it. Amiga is over... But the love for Amiga is still there. But the only really good computer now a days, is the ones from Apple.

Would love Amiga rise again, and become something like Apple with such a nice store :)

Cheers
