BlizzPPC support is there since the very first
versions of MorphOS (including native BVisionPPC
support).

Then go to some show on which MorphOS is shown.
There is only a very(!) old beta (v0.4) available for
public users currently (see morphos.net).

I was told the beta was open to anyone that asked....it's not available for public download.

In other words, the beta is not closed like OS 4, but
on the other hand, you don't hear anyone talking about it either.....my impression is you keep what you find hush hush, until it is released to the public.

I was not interested in such a restriction...so I haven't seen it myself.

I thnk the problem is simply of all the different hardware configurations people with BPPC's have, and the need to devote time and resources which are needed elsewhere writing support for all those different clockport addons, ZII/ZIV/PCI busboards, GFX cards, powerflyers, SCSI interfaces, and so on... don't want all the forums full of people yelling "It doesnt work" just because it doesnt support their particular config.

MOS point blank refuses to run on my machine, which is odd since it's not that unusual a config.

It has a BlizzPPC 603e+ 240MHz / 040 25MHz, 64Mb + BVision gfx card, IDE (sucks, I know) HD and an IDE CD rom connected to the PCMCIA via a telmex card (sucks even more). A windoze keyboard is attached via a EZPC connection and a standard amiga mouse.

Even without the CD connected, it just doesn't boot. No error messages nothing, just a blank screen and the whole machine is locked up.

I tried several versions along the way and kind of lost interest since a blank screen lockup is as far as  any of them got.

Were you using Blizzkick or some similar hack when you tried it, Karlos?

Maybe an older flash or a corrupted one is stopping MOS booting. It should boot - the hardware is standardised. And just remember not to use your ordinary startup-sequence with MOS, or standard hacks and patches will crash it.

Hi Kenny,

It was a completely clean install on it's own partition. Heh, it's still there IIRC..

The flash is OK AFAIK, but of the top of my head I can't tell you if its the most up to date (it does early startup screen retargetting to the gfx card, I recall the previous verion did not).

I know I have a setting in there that helps shapeshifter run but I tried switching it off also. I just could not persuade any version I've tried (the most recent from march IIRC ?) to boot once no matter how I fiddled with settings, so I got fed up and lost interest.

Oh well...IMO MOS 0.4 public beta isn't really worth running anyway. It's supposed to have a 30 minute time limit before it drops to A500 speed, but I never got it to run that long. ;-)

Things certainly have changed. MOS 1.3 is more robust than AmigaOS now. And it's easier to get working - unless you happen to be Wilse. :-( ;-)

>MOS point blank refuses to run on my machine

Well it could be anything from your description:
wrong installation, some program crashing during
startup, etc.

For installation and some trouble shooting for v0.4
version try this link.

You could also check debug log.

However v0.4 is over 2(?) years old now so not really
worth trying to make this version run.

Well, like I said, clean installation and followed to the last letter.

I tried maybe eight times to get it to run and nothing. I don't even think it generated a debug log.

Anyhow, b*gger it. I'll wait for a BlizzPPC compatible OS4 release ;-)

MorphOS 0.4 was RTFM. And not only that RTFM to the letter, and strictly to the letter. It took me almost a day to get it working. The docs warned you though... :-)

That's why MorphOS 1.2 (and on) shocked me when I got it. Insert the CD and off you go...

The difference is like between Heaven and Hell.

Well, if you're trying 0.4 you're out of luck. It works
wherever it wants. The blank screen has an explaination,
just use serial or ram debug and take a look.

Well if we are talking 0.4 I did get it working after a couple of days ( AmiGR must be a bit of a whizz kid ) hard slog on a weekend and quite enjoyed the speedups it gave in places. Its Ok if you don't expect too much. I never got it up and running for long enough ( actually not a crash I just lost interest ) to reach the time limit.

Unless MorphOS 1.4+ gets released for BlizzardPPC or AmigaONE I may never have the opportunity of trying it out.
Hate figure.
