Amiga Vista
« on: December 27, 2006, 03:34:52 PM »
After 10 billion search hits for "Vista" returning the "Amiga is teh deadz0r, V1st4 r00lz joo" thread...

I came across a user group demo of Vista in my storage room.  What can this program really do, and is there a more modern version than 1990 available, possibly with RTG support?

I think it's the fractal landscape generator, right? Have a look for Vista Pro instead, that was developed up to at least version 3.0. It was given away on a CU Amiga cover CD a while back as well - I want to say January 1997, but I'm not certain.

Didn't it's name change to "World Construction Set" or something like that?

@bobamu

I was under the impression that WCS was a totally different app. From memory, the renderings looked more realistic too. Never had a chance to play with it myself though. :-(

No, that was something else entirely.

Vista was a 3D landscape rendering program.

Vista Pro was given away on pc mags too.

The dems are even cross platform usable.

WCS is a different app.

Panorama was another generator

My memory is not so good :)

Seems that vista got quite photorealistic (at least for the time) in later incarnations.

DEM is a quite old data format that I suspect predates vista and the amiga, no doubt some GIS person knows all the details

Vista was nice on a500. I made some graphics with it on my AMOS games. Vista Pro was just great. Had to buy FPU on my A1200 originally that it and Real3D would have ran. Those countless hours for waiting it to render some landscape fly bys :)

And yes, WCS was different program, but about for same purpose. Generating real looking landscapes. WCS was bit too difficult, but judging pictures on magazines, it had real impressive results too. Especially water.

Vista Pro 3 - CU Amiga Super CD14 - September 1997

Needs a fix on certain machines. Systems with RTG should launch VistaPro from Workbench running under a native screen mode. Machines without FPU processor needs Stack adjustment in the script called 'VistaPro3.0'. Edit this to Stack 50000 and place it at the start of the script.

World Construction Set can be seen HERE

I thought it meant 'water closet in stereo'.
World Construction Set was supposedly the first commercial app to use MUI.
