Digital almanac 3 troubles
« on: December 20, 2006, 11:29:09 AM »
  Hello!
I finally dowloaded Digital almanac 3 CD from Aminet and i have problems with it:
First, the installer fails after 15 minutes of installing the software. No real problem to me. I installed the app manually.
I also notice that it refuse to work with MCP. Without it, it works ok (almost)
The animations that it produce can be viewed by CyverAVI and CyverQT, but not with more recent players like moovid.
All the docs i have found, appears to be in german. Iirc, there was a guide in english for DA 2. Is there something similar for version 3?

And now, the REAL problem: When i open the "Extra -> Maps" window, and start playing with the planet maps (viewing different maps, moving the mouse over its features, resizing window, etc) it will cause the whole app to hang with a "system failure" window soon.. :-( It happens everytime i do it, it's not coinsidencial.
Anyone has this problem? Is there a way to prevent this? I have tried both 68k and WarpOS executables and to increase the stack. It doesn't help.

When I ported DA3 to MorphOS I recall it had the same problem... it is fixed for MorphOS build but someone should compile DA3 for 68k again.

Though, you probably didn't try the latest version? DA III 5.8 doesn't support WarpUp anymore but fixes some bugs in return.

I have just tried the MorphOS version and the bug is still there, exactly as i described it previously. The only difference is that i'm getting an "application is meditating" error message. I forgot to say that when this happens (in all versions) the coordinates gadget gets filled with a row of zeros.

Not here but I managed to trigger bug with map coordinates and it looks like there is a buffer overflow. Going to look at it...

Great. If this buffer overflow can lead to a crash, then we are probably talking about the same bug. And while you are at it, i'd like to report another minor, MorphOS specific (or rather v5.8?) bug: When i try to zoom in an region, the zoom circle appears shifted many pixels right and down from the mouse pointer. Though, the region that gets zoomed is exactly the one i selected and not the enclosed area by the misplaced cirlce. so it is not a real bug, more like a visual glitch.

Please try this. I fixed parsing bug in Maps window which could cause your problem and lasso (for zoom) should work right (I hope).

(It is MorphOS build since I can't create 68k binaries, I don't have 68k targetted GCC.)

It is an astronomy program for Amiga developed by Achim Stegemann. Its source code was released for free earlier this year.

The bug with zoom is fixed in this version, but the serious bug with maps remains.
