AmigaMail
« on: December 19, 2006, 06:27:17 PM »
When I first installed OS3.9 a few years ago, I tried out the AmigaMail program.
Not good to use if you want something that is reliable.

As a matter of interest does any one actualy use AmigaMail?
Has any one actualy got it to work so it actualy gets IN and actualy goes OUT with mail?

I have found it very unreliable to say the least.

I myself use SimpleMail and YAM.

This is just of an interest nothing more to see how many out there have acutaly got it to run and work properly.

Mike.

This is a very old thread but i give my opinion here anyway, as i just installed 0s3.9 on my A1200 with a ethernet connection.
Amigamail seems to behave very strange, it doesnt seem to send and recive my mail everytime i try it? sometimes it works perfectly but as Mike here says, its not very reliable. I have to try Simplemail and Yam.
What other Mail programs do you people use?

I use SimpleMail if I want to use a full mail client. It's very good. Never tried YAM since my mailbox is IMAP, which isn't supported by YAM. SquirrelMail (web-based IMAP client) works perfectly in IBrowse as long as you have SSL working.

AmigaMail is not installed correctly by the installer. It creates a directory where actually it needs a file. And some of the configuration options are not easy to understand. But once it is configured correctly, it works reliably. (Not that I used it much, just tested it once or twice.)

Bye,

A couple of years back I attempted to see if you could live without MUI.  AmigaMail was the program that convinced me you couldn't :-)
