Amiga for Music Production

Hello, I run a small recording, and I would love to boot up my old Amiga 2000 and do some music production with it.


What would I need in terms of software/hardware.

The system, if I remember, is a A2000 with a 68040, no cd-rom, but I would like to add a burner (I have an external SCSI if that would work?)

A SCSI-Burner should also easily fit in
that 5.25-bay of the A2000, but you will need
extra SW to run it, like BurnIT or MakeCD.

This also raises the question, which version of
AmigaOS, are running ?

About audio:
You can either use the internal Paula-sound which
isn't really uptodate, but supported by (allmost)
countless apps, buy a 2nd-hand card or the brand-new
Delfina-Flipper

Music-SW ain't my speciality, but it might help
if you could tell us what exactly you want to
do.

Mix/arrange existant audio-tracks ?
Add effects, and remove unwanted sound from them ?
Compose new music ?
Like the ones found in old games ?
Or something that doesn't sound like a computer ?

Well if you just want it as a squencer then the 2000 will be fine...  Ther is plenty of good quality Sequencer software available, and MIDI boxes are dirt cheap.

As a sample box... well I would suggest a toccata or Delfina-Flipper...

um.. audiolabs (I think that's the name) seem to have a great peice of kit with their software.

I personally like to use my A1200 (on native/paula audio) and MIDI at the same time using OcataMED sounds studio. That is a great machine for reliability putting ideas together... but I would have to say my PC is far more use in the studio nowadays... Simply due to the quantity of software and extreme perfomance avaiable. Despite Windows is a pain in the arse, no Windows 2000 isn't perfect...   :-(

The Delfina sound card is probably the best still on the market, but if you can find good
used tocatta or Sunrize AD516 cards, those are great too.

If you are gonna boot up your old 2000HD and do some music production (midi?).. I suggest the following...

Don't dottle, RUN to Download this cool professional music tool. It's freely available, and if you have a midi interface and production equipment it's a steal of a deal (it's FREE).. This was arguabely (besides Music-X) the best Amiga midi program out there and you can still get it.. There is a cult of midi folks still using this as a production tool because it does what they want.

Also on that page is SuperJam! a cool starter music program for folks just starting out with music that don't have tricked out midi setups..

There is still an online group using it, and I think we should call attention to good classic software that's out there. I think the author got bought by microsoft and is doing something called DirectMusic or something like that today ;-)  :-)

I would be producing live artists and radio production.  On my PC I use Sound Forge and Cool Edit Pro, so anything similiar to these programs would be great.
