Evening folks, just sitting here thinking (I know that can be dangerous), I've got a nice Amiga('060 Blizz, OS3.9, A2000.  It sure would be nice to be able to use AmigaBasic on it.  Yes, I know AmigaBasic sucks bad, and there are other, better languages available.  But just for old times sake I'd like to use AmigaBasic on it.  Anyone know how to make it work, or is it not possible?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Best regards....Art

The best way to get it working is to disable all fast RAM with nofastmem and set your system font to Topaz 8.

And disable CPU-caches ....


Or even better: Switch back to Kick1.3 and 68000  :-x

I don't know about AmigaBasic, but I recently got AbasiC working on my A1500, although I had to use the kickstart switcher to get KS1.3, but it didn't mind the 68030 at all.

I'd never used AbasiC before.

Thank you all so much!  Going to try your suggestions sonn.  I think I've still got the 1.3 rom's around somewhere, just have to get one of the switcher things.  I'll let you know how things work out.  Best regards....Art

Well, tried the thing with nofastmem etc. didn't work.  Got a yellow guru type message about  heap space or something.  Any suggestions?

Well hello Art

I see you live not far from me ;-)
I'm in Houghton Lake. Imagine that 2
Amigans here in the great north.

Anyway its not really very hard to get
AmigaBasic to run. I have it running on
an A3000 OS3.1 and A3640 card.

All thats required is 'NoFastMem' and
a few other minor things.
Make a Dir called 'EXTRAS', put AmigaBasic
in that Dir and run it from there.
Make sure you do the assigns in your
user startup. AmigaBasic gets lost without
the assigns. Also when you quit from AmigaBasic
do it from the pull down menu, NOT the upper
left gadget or you will crash every time.
There is more but that should get you running.

why on earth are there so many out there who are interested in running amigabasic?
that has got to be THE worst peice of software for the amiga of all time

Well .....if you know nothing about programing
then AmigaBasic is a good place to start.
The learning curve is easy up to a point.
After you reach that point its easier on say Blitz.
There is plenty of documentation on AmigaBasic.
Its not a bad place to start. I played with it for awhile
then moved on to Blitz.
I made this comparison before...... when learning
to read you don't start with 'War and Peace' ..
you start with 'Dick and Jane see Spot run'

  I'm going to do what you suggested.  It sure is weird to end up so close here in the Boonies of Northern Michigan.  Just goes to show, there are more of us in the woodwork than anyone guess's!
