Could you post your age when replying.

'I messaged him/her'

I'm not convinced that 'text' is a verb.  I get a bit tired at the abuse of the English language.  I'm not a champion for the language, but it just grates on my nerves.  The mass media in Aus. are a terrible agency for such abuse.

Hmm, funny that.  My parents were both literature majors, and also went through school in a period when grammar was actually taught to students.  What little grammar I was taught in school, was actually wrong.  Of course, I didn't realise that until I needed to teach English in China.

Living in Australia, in some respects, speaking grammatically correct English can actually be a hindrence.  It can cause some difficulty in getting along with others.  I've noticed this when looking for work in the resources sector.  I've deliberately let my English slip for this reason.  Unfortunately, I now have to really stop and think about grammar sometimes, if I wish to write something correctly.

I also speak a little Chinglish from time to time.  Accents and idiom just rub off on me, whether I like it or not.

I hate the use of "text" as a verb meanng "send a text message". It's another ugly example of the oversimplification of the English language. Ever worse than that is that I have heard people using the 'word' "textes" (pronounced "text-is") in the countext of "text" as a plural noun :pissed:

Spooky - my TV just asked me to enter a competition "by texting," about a minute ago.

The world is a changing place. What was once swept under the rug or shunned is now accepted. The same will happen with sloppy and short handed English. They have already started using it in advertising here in Australia, you can't stop it, so just sit back and accept it.

"Telephone" (or phone) is used as a verb and appears as such in the English dictionary, I don't see why we should treat "text" any differently.

I'd personally never use text as a verb, but if I had to, I'd say it was an irregular one (text, text, text).
