Progressive 040/500 on eBay!!!
« on: December 05, 2006, 04:40:29 AM »
Here's an interesting little item I saw while browsing eBay...

Progressive Peripherals 040/500, An 040 accellerator for an Amiga 500!! How cool is that?!
- Doc

A4000D, A3640 OC-36.3MHz, custom tower, Mediator A4000D. Diamond Banshee 16M, Indivision AGA 4000, GVP HC+8.

Mac Mini 1.5GHz, that might run MorphOS someday, when the fools who own it come to the realization that 30 minutes just isn\'t enough time to play with it enough to decide whether or not you like it enough to cough up $200.

 - Someone please design SOME kind of DIY accelerator for the A4000. :D -

Yeah, I took a look. (how'd you guess?:-D)

That card has no IDE interface and the 040 requires a fan (I'm not a fan of fans). I still might have tried to get it, but I noticed he only ships to the US. Sometimes people get confused and think Canada is part of the US and you can trick them into shipping to Canada, but I noticed he has it clearly marked - in brackets, with exclamation point - "(US only!)".

I'm working on my 500 as well, and while an 040 in the 500 would be really damn neat, only 4MB, in ZIP RAM?  Pass.  I'll take my 50MHz 030 with 32MB SIMM, thank you.

I agree with MrA500 on this one: no IDE, etc.  By the time I get done stacking the AdIDE and clock port adapter... no room for a keyboard.  Although, I do like the idea of Kickstart on the accelerator -- that's a nice touch.

I wonder if I'd get hanged for hacking a SIMM module into such a rare rare rare item... :-)

EDIT: I wonder how this would fare in an A1000.... hmmm....

Wow.. first one I have ever seen on the net.

How can you hack SIMM modules into ZIP-RAM slots?

It can take another 4MB of ZIPs.  I remember when this came out.  PP&S made some of the first 040 boards (I still have a working Mercury 040/35Mhz).  (BTW, my long quest for a picture of the O4!O is complete...  :D  Gotta convert that to a vector and save it)
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

@ Adolescent

Are you converting that bitmap (what program do you use), or are you going to draw it (using the picture as a guide)?

I also find those Amiga logos fascinating.

@ Oli_hd

I predict that board will go for $551

Dunno, but it'd be worth a shot.  It's all address and data lines :-)  (Well, technically that's not all, but still...)

No, not since 2001, when it was learned that a lot of French people live there.

It's certainly possible. About a month ago, a NIB A500 (actually,  looked to be a facory refurb) sold for $325 USD.  Then again, a few weeks prior to that, one sold for around $80.

I'd love to own an internal unit like that though... anyone want to trade a Viper for a GVP A530?  ;-)

As an 500 fanatic myself, I always thought of the PP 040 as the 'holy grail', but then came to the conclusions (as others have done) that an 030 with a stack of RAM, eg EMatrix 530 would be much better in terms of compatibility and performance...

Still a nice card though
