Yep, the PPC died so JJ at Amiga Center converted the board to a CS MKIII ;)

I'm curios what the likely cause of death is for all these ppc cards is it continuous usage, bad cooling, anyone know?

In my case, yes

Seems like DCE decided to put the same tiny cooling fan as on the Blizzard PPC's on the heatsink on their CyberstormPPC's which is completely out of this world!!
So you can say most of them overheated and died and some suffered from bad CPU solders and fragile 68060 cpu sockets
The Phase 5 Cyberstorm PPC's lives longer  ;-)

From the yellow look to the pcb, I'd say that's a DCE version of the Cyberstorm.  These cards have a much lower build quality than the original ones made by Phase5 and were notorious for the underspec'd cooling fans on the PPC604e and overall short lifespan. That's perhaps the reason why it died?

Mines also a DCE model that's recently been sent to France for repair, subsequently turned out my 4000 mobo that was dead.
Anyway I thought while it was there I'd ask JJ to replace the fan and service the card, so now I'm really glad I did!
Recommend anyone with a DCE cyberstorm to change the crappy fan immediately!

We should point out this particular card is now a fully functional CS MKIII with no such worries  :-)

Oh, sure; I didn't mean it the way as this card isn't any good.

A PPC with PPC removed works like a charm as a MKIII, everything else like it's PCI bus; SCSI controller; RAM etc will work just fine.

Actually having a "former" PPC has a slight advantage. If one was to find a PPC cpu; get it reballed it would be a piece of cake converting it back to a PPC card. Converting a MKIII to use PPC will be a much larger problem; it has no power regulator etc etc...

it reminds me of my dead DCE csppc... I miss using it, and I never really got to enjoy it much... always had a problem, delays for scsi stuff to arrive, there was always something preventing me to use my amiga, and it was always on the "building" state... and now the ppc just died...
many things are just pure luck...
