Deluxe Galaga
« on: December 02, 2006, 06:48:18 PM »
Hi all,
Does anyone know why the AGA version of deluxe galaga, downloaded from the official website recently, may sometimes randomly lock up my A1200T (64Mb ram) within the first second of level 11 starting (I can't see any particular game factor that will cause it)???

No other levels that I have been on (yet) have ever caused the machiene to crash.

Apart from that, its an a.m.a.z.i.n.g game !

Thanks,
Hodgkinson.

I've completed the game, AGA version, 3 times in a row and never faced a problem. I don't think it's the game....maybe the one u downloaded was corrupted somehow? Although that's unlikely....

Hmmmm...
I've downloaded the game twice, and on both "download versions" the problem is still there, FYI - Both downloads were taken from the same AGA Galaga file on the "Official Galaga" site, via a PC, and subsequently transferred via cross-dos to the A1200T.

Furthermore, this problem, as I say, ONLY occurs on level ll (As far as I can see), and is totally random wether it occurs game to game. However, when it does occur, its always within 2 seconds of the level starting, just when the "bad guys" flood onto the screen from the bottom, and it results in a total system hang.

Its been some time since I downloaded it. I might try it again (In case there was some weird internet problem at the time), and, rather than transferring it via crossdos, I might try it via a networked A1200 and then onwards to the A1200T via standard formatted floppies.

Any more suggestions appreciated,
Thanks,
Hodgkinson.

Could this be a Windows to CrossDos problem truncating or altering file names ? What format do you download it in ? Does it work on the networked A1200 ?
Yeah, too many questions :-(  Time for a :pint:

Thanks for the PC link.  Missed that game for the Amiga like crazy.  Paid a visit to Rapidshare and now I have the game.  :-)

...

Just installed and played the game. Now I know this game REALLY rocks.  :-D  Addicting.  Going to let my sister know about this game. She played it hours in a row whenever the Amiga was left open.  :-)

Yeps,
but it is quite a fuss to get it goin' on a pc. Maybe it's playable with Dosbox, since dosbox is very flexible with memory managers, tsr's and irq setups and so.

Homer: I've checked the file names time and time again, and their fine. Besides, there arn't any "level files" as such, so if it was a file name problem, why would it only appear from time to time, and on only one level. Thanks anyway.

Unfortunatly im a little busy at the moment, but I'll probably try Galaga on the networked A1200 in the future.

EDIT: Eeeeeek!!! Whats happened to the Deluxe Galaga Website??? Its disappered... Has it moved or somthing?

Not sure if it's the same as what you have, but try version 2.6c from Aminet.

I know that one works fine on a standard A4000/030

If it's still a problem, perhaps try disabling any patches and things you might have, e.g. MCP, Birdie

Hi there again,

It seems like i've been running Deluxe Galaga V2.6 and the Aminet version definitely is newer (I've compared some of the files). Its also got a few bug fixes in the aminet version that the version i've been running doesn't have.
Perhaps that’s where the problem lies. I'll try out the slightly-newer version some time.

FYI: I've also got V1.5 from a cover disk. I prefer the music on V1.5, but the later versions of the game are better, of course.

Thanks all,
Regards,
Hodgkinson.

@K7HTH

I played that demo to death! :-D

I can't remember where I found it. I thought it was by following links on the Warblade website, but anyhoo, there's a game called Bud Redhead. I played the demo and kinda reminds me of an Amiga-style game, only it's for Windows. It's platformy game that has parallax background scrolling.

That's no problem...You can use the music from version
1.5 by copying the Galaga.music files to the 2.6 version.
