choosing between viper 630 or the e-matrix 630, what's best?
« on: November 27, 2006, 01:58:56 AM »
i've comed to the privileged situation of being able to choose between these two beauties, what would you choose?

i heard that those are about identical, but also that the 8mb version of the e-matrix (in which i've been offered) is pcmcia unfriendly?

Hi!
As long as i can tell (and remember), both are identical, maybe developed by differente developers, but esentially they are the same cards...
Lucky you!!!

PD: if you have to choose between one oor the other, it means the other is "free", right?
Maybe that person would consider selling me the one you dont choose??
 :-D
Have a look here Viper/E-Matrix

As far as i understand, one was built by DCE, the other one by M-Tec...

Yes, the M-Tec E-Matrix 630 conflicts with the PCMCIA slot if it has 8 MB on it. The Apollo 630 can take 32 MB while being PCMCIA friendly.

Power Computing sold both of them as Viper 630 in the UK. They sold any accelerators for any Amiga from any manufacturer as Viper.

DCE had nothing to do with any of the 630 accelerators.

@lex

ok, nice to know all of that..cause there's som misleading info. on those acc. on the net.

about the new acc. from Individual, that's funny cause i was mailing with him this spring, and he told me of a new acc. he was designing/testing, that's pretty much before anyone knew of it, except maybe softhut and a person or two other than that..i promised to keep it on the low about the product and then he made it public this fall..
but, now it's been delayed hasn't it? he told me on a mail some time ago that he had a lot of other things to do, but it was supposed to come out after summer so i guess it's on it's way..

@amidude

did you ever try overclocking it? (for fun or whatever..)
do you run any cooling or does it keep cool enough?

@gavilan

hehe, i think you read the same pages which in part made me make this thread, it's a bit misleading cause it mixes all the a600 acc. together in one big mash with makers, photos, text, the whole thing should be cleaned up, the page lex linked is better (though the big book... has a lot of info generally)..:)
about the two acc. it's no prob. if ou want to buy one of them, but since these are rare and stuff i want to use some time to decide on wich of them to choose..;)

I've got a m-tec 630 with 8mb and it doesn't disable the pcmcia slot (I use a 4mb sram card in it and I see 12mb - haven't done any comprehensive testing though).

@kidkoala

I've got the Viper 4MB 030/42Mhz version
with FPU, and I never overclocked it. The CPU has
a heatsinc on it and I also have installed a cooling
fan to get rid of the heat inside the case. Not that
it runs very hot...but just incase.
The A630 runs like a charm and is very stable.
