Back From Very Long Vaction, No OS 4.0, Still?
« on: May 25, 2003, 07:25:11 PM »
Well well well.  After being sucked into many months of working 12-14 hour work weeks, and then trying to cope with it, playing PS2 and Xbox (yes my brother has an Xbox and he wants me to play games with him sometimes), I come back into the Amiga world after the hiatus and...

...there is still no Amiga 4.0 or Amiga One? Wassup with that ? How can they still not be able to come up with a product?  I remember telling my friends about this "new" system I was gonna get a long long long time ago.  I held on hope.  Still no  system.  Be me among some of the most faithful (or just naive).  This is probably why most people have just quit Amiga all together.  What will it take?  Well at least I'm only working 10 hours a day and no weekends now   :-D

Well, no OS4.0 yet (although, if you want to SEE it, it's going on tour soon), but the AmigaOne is available... I should know - there's one sitting in front of me right now :-)

Yeah not yet...

I think there is a better chance of either:

1- Jesus Return
2- Elvis is found alive
3- Jesus shows w/ Elvis and Jimi

And the wait goes on...

ibm and moto made a cpu, then didn't make a practical way for someone else to make a functional computer with them. THAT'S where the problem stems from. They're sitting there saying, "gosh, why can't we sell a million cpu's per quarter, like intel???". Duuuhhhh!

It was only Feb. or March of this year that a proper board was made. So they were coding for 1 and half years, without a motherboard for AOS4.0 to work on.

That's what happens when you make a new computer with a shoestring budget.

I'll bet there are all kinds of other companies hovering around, considering the potential, but they all want to invest $1 and get 1 billion back. Maybe they should buy 1 lottery ticket per week to help their bottom line.

AmigaOne! The longshot that'll deliver!
\\"Which would you buy? The Crappy A1200, 15 years out of date... or the Mobile Phone that I have?\\" -- bloodline
So I guess that A500, 600, 1000, 2000, CDTV, CD32, are pure garbage then? Thanks for posting here.

Don't panic. It's NDA info, but they work on a Time Machine along with the OS4 development, so OS4 will be  (was) released in 2001 August, right on schedule.

Oh, where have I put my smilies? :-):-):-)

No, it's like the OS4 Launch or whatever they called that. (which was delayed, and now realised in the Tour I presume)

Well, if you want that PPC experience and can't wait, I know that
there are still Pegasos motherboards running the AmigaOS compatable
MorphOS for sale still.
Try blazedmongers new Free Universal Computer kit, available with the GUI toolkit Your Own Universe, the popular IT edition, Extremely Reliable System for embedded work, Enhanced Database development and Wide Area Development system for telecommuting.

welcome back.

its interesting to read the excuses...hey they've been working a year and a half without a motherboard....wow, I always thought they were doing the cyberstorm version first and they had the hardware the whole time....learn something new everyday  :-)

anyway, it'll be a longer wait still, have fun with the
rest of us restless folk...only thing to decide is
whether you enjoy making excuses or poking holes
in excuses...other than that, just have to sit tight...
:-)

I did the same thing KennyR did; I went to PCs.  At first one of the Amigathlon/AmigaXL machines from SoftwareHut.  After a serious mistake on my part that broke the software that came on it, my brother gave me XP Pro to try.  I will never, ever, never go back to waiting on other people to supply me with nothing but promises for a machine and software that won't do half of what XP does on a high-end PC.  Within one month, I had hardware and software on this machine that I never would have had on my A4000.  I loved my Amiga days, but the choice between having all the newest gadgets and software and having nothing but promises -- well, that was an easy choice for me.
