Networking software for OS4/MOS

Yo,

I was just reading an old article about Envoy and wondered if a new verison of this was going to be included in OS4 and if there is a similar program for MOS.

If not does Envoy 3 work with these new OSes?  It would seem ashame to have to pay the money for Envoy after already buying a new compyter/OS as windows and linux users dont have to do it.

I know we are pretty well catered for in terms of TCP/IP and Samba, but just wondered what the story was with Amiga specific networking.

I really have no idea what happened to Envoy. IIRC Envoy was a C= product so I'd say that Envoy is the property of Amiga Inc, Gateway or Tulip. Perhaps an interesting question for Fleecy/Ben?

;-) Nope, it's commercial third party software.  I have a copy of Envoy 3 here.  The documentation says that it is copyrighted by Heinz Wrobel, and was manufactured by Schatztruhe, in Germany.

When I get a copy of AmigaOS 4.0, I'll try Envoy out on it, to see how well it works.  However, on the whole, I currently prefer Samba as it seems more stable.

I used EnLAN DFS for years. It was transparent peer-to-peer, got a few upgrades, had good admin features, was easy to set up and worked like a charm - never a crash or deadlock. It was close to having QNX's qnet; very transparent. If I ever get the chance I'll try it on MorphOS.

On the side I was running some Aminet ParNET improvement, forgot the name, between one of the two Amigas and CDTV. It was a pretty cool way to have it all.

In the Amigaworld.net weekly fleecy moss questions and answere sessions of some week, some person asked fleecy about networking software... Fleecy said that SAMBA had been considered although no one liked the idea, but it seemed that SAMBA was the only real choice.

I heard of Envoy through Olaf Barthel and i thought it sounded great. I posted a question in for answereing in week 10 about weather Amiga Inc or Hyperion had considered Envoy to be the officialynetworking package for AmigaOS 4 since its allready well integrated within the system providing file sharing and printer sharing (amoung other things)

My question was not give to fleecy in week 10... i reminded people in week 11, still no post... i reminded them again for week 12... and i dont know if its been selected for week 12 yet...

Also, i have suggested and will again if we can get an interview with the copywrite holders/maintainers of envoy as ii'd love to know more about it...

i tried to get intouch with the copywrite holder/maintainer but i could no find him at all... If you do a search on the web, all you get is pages trying to sell you envoy...

from the spin olaf put on it, its an extreamly important program. One that AmigaOS4 needs... SAMBA support is good, but maybe we should promote our own? Also, Envoy 3 is from my understanding is much more powerful than SAMBA...

So people, go to Amigaworld.net submit some questions about Envoy or refer to my question in week 10.... Surely they'll take envoy over samba? pfffffftt...
