@wayne or kent etc

I am sure we all remember the couple of times in recent years that the site has been hacked or had problems and everybody has lost their acoounts.  I know I have had to re-register twice.

I know next to bugger all  about running a website, but is there say for instance a file you could e-mail us once a month with all our account details in it, so if the site went tits up, we could just re submit this file.

Or is this a pipe dream ,. due to time, security of size of the files.

just thinkinh out loud really

This sounds like a good idea. Once a month might be a little much, though. Instead, what about mailing it when the account is first created, and have a checkmark next to the submit button on the account update page which says something like "e-mail account details".
I sold my Amiga for a small fortune, but a part of my soul went with it.

the reason i said once a month was due to post count and status.

While desperately searching for a spot of wood upon which to knock, I should note that this site shouldn't have a 'catestrophic event".  If it does though, we've got a lot more than "post count and status" to worry about.

The last two times the system was hacked, people got access to everything.  The entire database.  Whether this was due to the package itself or server setup has yet to be proven.  Point is, post count and status, and even usernames and passwords are fairly trivial items to worry about.

Are you kidding me? I pick up chicks by saing "Hey there, I'm 'Cult Member' on amiga.org..."

Edit: Let me rephrase that question: What kind of measures would be needed to take regular backups?
Amiga: Too weird to live, too rare to die.

Um why don't they just back the database up.  It isn't that hard to do.

you type "mysqldump .sql"

This assumes it is PHP nuke using a mysql DB or sonething similar.  I am suprised that the hosting company doesn't do this for amiga.org as normal practice.

Perhapps they could do that once a month rather than emailing details all the time.  And then people don't need to re-rgister.  restoring takes about 15 seconds as apposed to the amount of time would take to re-register every one's account.

So there's really not much to worry about, then? :-)
