I always had trouble landing, so I just flew from LA to where
San Fransisco was supposed to be - but no 3D city there :(

Then I ran out of fuel...

Its funny that Falcon had so many advanced features in the weapons and displays but flew like a turd, while F/A-18 Interceptor looked like WB 1.3 but had so much better
flight dynamics.

------------------------------------------------

I have to differ. F/A-18 was a lot of fun, but was always a bit choppy on a 68000. I remember seeing Falcon for the first time in our local shop. While looking out of the side of the {bleep}pit and pushing to the side with the stick, the speed at which those hills rolled was something new to me. And in F/A-18 the dogfighting was more about chasing the target reticule than chasing an aircraft. In Falcon you could get in really close and watch those MiGs try to outfly you. Landing in Falcon was pretty tough too. I think the best version was the first mission disk where you were up against the MiG 29 Fulcrums. But it was always more of a sim than F/A-18 which was more about easily accessible fun IMHO.

On mission 4, what is the command to drop the lifeboat to help the downed pilot?
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.

@Angus

Ya know, thinking back I based what I said on the way it landed- In the air Falcon wasnt all that bad- pretty impressive for the era, but close to the ground, particulary with landing I guess the scenery, aircraft, and pilots perspective with airspeed always seemed out of sync and unrealistic to me.

But F/A-18 was undoubtedly more fun than realistic. And
consistent in that regard.

A good friend of mine feels the same way, he's a big fan of Digital Integration's F16 Combat Pilot, which I never quite amnaged to get into..... yet.   :)

Like he says, the best flight-sims have their good points, I love the close up dog-fighting, (which is one reason I love Star Crusader) he loves the mission planning, night missions and general depth. Certainly F/A-18 is a very cool game (see my review on the AGDB!).  :)

Its a shame neither TFX nor Tornado were RTG.  :(

Somebody PLEASE turn off this ridiculous sensor-thingie,
I mean, what's wrong with a c.o.c.k.pit?

I wonder what Charles Dickens would think of this...

In the Amiga Falcon there was something wrong with the scale and sizes and speed of things. E.g. Extremely high telephone poles etc.

Especially in the mission disk version, the speed of how things "ran" in the simulation changed depending how many objects it had to draw. Very fast if blank sky was visible, but slow when looking towards ground objects.

Anyone else notice when running F-18 on anything other than a 68000 that your plane's fuel consumption increases?

Are you using the WHDLoad version? I know Jean-François Fabre put in a lot of work so the install ran properly on the 060 etc, and gave a correspondingly smoother framerate.

Marvelous job I thought.

Oooh, I'll have to check that out - my first proper Amiga game and always one of my favorites.

The Sub mission - all you have to do is down the Migs... It was a bit of a let down to me as well! At least you could re-arm on the sub and have a bit of a rest ;-)
