Is there anything special you can do with an RTG
« on: November 13, 2006, 09:47:01 PM »
Besides having a nicer looking workbench and more colors for your graphic programs like ImageFX, are there any special applications or games that were made for RTG cards specifically?

I've got a Cybervision 64/3D and i'd like to see what I can do with it.

There's a GFX program that's specially designed
for Amiga's with GFX-cards:

Perfect Paint

Don't know about any games though...

Hi,

Most system-friendly applications allow the user to choose the screenmode to be used, and any such programs will benefit from the RTG card's increased resolution, colour depth and speed.

If you do any graphics work (i.e. rendering, ImageFX, PageStream), then really a RTG graphics card is almost a must.  It really makes things so much easier on the eyes, and you get a truer picture of what the output will look like (rather than a dithered image).

Also you can get those nice high scan rate screens for your PC type monitor.

Oh really? Which? I have the first two that came in the Total Descent "package". I got to run the first one using the aminet program where you could run it on your A1200. Too bad there wasn't any sound.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

I'd say web browsing is one major thing which benefits about having RTG card. With AGA it's pain in ***, with gfx card in zorro2 it's okayish, with gfx card in faster bus it flies!

There was a special Virge 3D version before Warp3D was written. Warp3d version should also work, but the Virge support was dropped somewhere I think. Descent played quite well on 320x400 screen, 640 was too much to be playable. But as I did it with my A500T/060/ZII, can“t say how much faster CV3D is on ZIII bus in 3D operation.

Don't underestimate the "nicer looking" workbench. Nicer looking also includes higher spatial resolutions and refresh rates, which are much better for your eyes :-)

Any sort of games that support RTG (ego shooters etc) will likely be a bit smoother too, given you are doing away with the C2P overhead. There's also a warp3d driver for the virge, but not many W3D applications work too well with it as it is quite limited.
