Voodoo Banshee and RAMLIB guru
« on: November 13, 2006, 04:21:50 AM »
Following the instructions on installing a Voodoo (banshee) card in a mediator 4000 setup... Upon dealing with the newly created and renamed Voodoo monitor, I get a guru error with RAMLIB, #80000004. I'm unable to make the needed changes in Picasso96, nor am I able to boot with the monitor file in place (same error on boot). I'm able to boot again if I delete Voodoo from /devs/monitors.

Any suggestions?

Mac Mini 1.5GHz, that might run MorphOS someday, when the fools who own it come to the realization that 30 minutes just isn\'t enough time to play with it enough to decide whether or not you like it enough to cough up $200.

Hi! I had a similar problem it turned out to be a faulty Voodoo 3 card. I think I may have overextended its capabilities anyway the quickest fix is to try another card mate trust me, I spent hours and hours on it.
cheers

If another card gives you the same error, It might be a power issue. Try upgrading to a larger power supply 300W or try another 4000 ps. When you upgrade the CPU, memory, CD ROM, expansion cards then a voodoo, the standard 145w ps is max'd.

Before trying a new card, you can try to download MCP from Aminet and install the MCPRamLibPatch comamnd only, in your startup-sequence.

I'm using a 400W ATX PSU, not likely a power problem. I'm reasonably certain the card works, tho I will test it out in my spare PC just to be sure. I'll try MCP as well.

Is anyone else out there using a Voodoo Banshee video card? I haven't gotten around to aquiring a Voodoo3/4/5 PCI card yet. They say the Banshees work. It's a Diamond Monster Fusion card.

Thanks for the tips!

Tested card in PC, it works.

Ok, tested the video card in another box, it works fine... Amiga's PSU is 350W (not 400), but still plenty of power... Tried MCPRamlibPatch, didn't help.

Any other suggestions?

Hi,

This will sound strange, but... Try to run this patch before activating the Voodoo monitor driver.

http://aminet.net/package/util/misc/dtack

It does work for my setup with Mediator and Voodoo3 on my A3000. The negative part of this patch, is that it makes Warp3D stuff displaying gfx errors and glitches.

But I only have to run this patch on a cold startup, and often when doing later reboots, I can activate the driver without the patch. I got a check-line in startup-sequence, if I press down "Alt"-key the patch will be executed.

Bye,
Dagfinn

@bernie

The dtack patch worked... Now I just need to figure out the proper frequency combo to get the higher resolutions to work on my Hyundai Imagequest L72S LCD monitor. I've got 640x480 working, but the other resolutions give me "unsupported mode" errors (from the monitor).

It's getting there... Many thanks!
