A3000 and Buddha
« on: November 12, 2006, 04:26:08 AM »
As I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of a 3000, I'm planning upgrades for it. One will be the addition of a Buddha IDE controller so I can use a leftover hard drive from a Mac upgrade.

The 3000 has 2.04 roms. Obviously, I'm going to upgrade them to 3.1. Are there any other necessary upgrades I'll have to make to the 3000-- Super Buster, etc.-- before adding the Buddha? Any other pitfalls to watch out for?

Thanks!
A3000: 2mb chip, 8mb fast; Buddha Flash Phoenix; some cheapo CD-ROM; OS 3.1 + lots of Macs

No upgrades are needed since the Buddha is a Zorro II card.  Keep in mind that the IDE will be slower and have higher CPU overhead than the onboard SCSI.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Be very careful about the orientation of the IDE cables.  They are not keyed so it is easy to get them the wrong way.  If that happens, and power is applied...?  Bye bye, buddha.

I just learned that the problems I'm having with my Cybergraphic 64/3D is because of the Buster, so if you plan on installing something like that, check which version you have so you can plan for the future, if you get any cards which use the ZIII.
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)

@stopthegop

There's no danger in putting 40pin IDE cables on backwards.  Also, IIRC there is a "1" printed on the circuit board that signifies which side pin 1 goes on.

But the 44 pin connector there is a danger as it contains power whereas the 40 pin does not.  The buddha has both types, doesn't it?
