WinUAE
« on: November 11, 2006, 05:58:50 PM »
So I downloaded WinUAE and it looks cool. I am still working on the A4000 I have as well, but wanted to try something. I only have one question: It is telling me I need a ROM file. Where do I find that at?

I know, a pretty dense question. :crazy:

You will find that in a real Amiga, or in the Amiga Forever package. ROMs are copyrighted, so you can't download them (not legally, that is).

Of course it wasn't.

You have a real Amiga, so you have the ROM :)
It's just a matter of getting it into a file.

Could someone help ? I know there is some programs for doing this, but I never used any ...

@Starrunner:

Find the directory where WinUAE.exe is installed. That's usually C:\Program Files\WinUAE. In the same place there is a directory called Amiga Programs and in there are several programs which can either be run under emulation or on a real Amiga. You need TransROM and TransDisk.

Now you need a means to transfer files from your PC to the Amiga and vice versa. I assume you already have transferred files, so I don't comment on this here.

Transfer TransROM and TransDisk to your Amiga, open a Shell window and enter the command

transrom >ram:kick31.rom

Now transfer the file kick31.rom back to the PC, it's the ROM file you need.

The other program, TransDisk, is used to create ADF files from your floppy disks. This is needed because the PC cannot read Amiga floppies. So you have to copy the contents of the floppy disk into a file and use this file in WinUAE.

There are many other programs to create ADF files on Aminet which are more comfortable than TransDisk.

Bye,
Thomas

@ Starrunner;

Or just use a floppy formatted as a PC disk to save the file from your Amiga. That way your Windoze machine can read it. I use Kickgrab - it's quick and easy   but either way will work...........
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)
C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+
