Bought a mint A4000/040 today!

As the topic says: I just came home with an A4000/040 in absolute MINT condition, there's no yellowing at all on the case and the keyboard. There's just dust, but not that much either....

The previous owner told me he bought it for video titling (he has a little studio at home), but he used it for 100 hours at maximum. It's been gathering dust in a dark room ever since...

Of course, I opened the case to check on the battery, but to my surprise I found none - I guess he already removed it, but there's no traces of leakage at all.
The motherboard and daughterboard are Rev. B
The A3640 card is Rev. 3.1

This baby set me back 125 Euro, but I think it's very well spent :-)

Just a little question to this topic: can I use the 3.1 ROMs from an A1200 in it, or must I buy separate ROMs?




Oh yeah, and there's a jumper that says 2MB or 8MB Chip RAM. Can I install 8MB Chip RAM? That would be wonderful!!

Congratulations, what a bargain eh! Don't forget upload some pictures into the hardware gallery :-)

I think the 4000 has it's own Roms and available from Amigakit.

Sadly not possible... The orginal thought was that it was going to be enabled for future chipset/models, but i guess that did not happen since commodore went bust.

Will do, I wanted to insert a spare DVD rom drive before taking a picture, but the connectors on the IDE cable are too close to eachother to be attached to both the harddrive and the DVD player.

Oh well, that's a thing for later then. Maybe first a bigger harddrive (currently 250MB) and 3.1 ROMs then...

congrats!

i found one recently too that had been used as a toaster workstation at a nearby university... my battery luck was not so good though :-(.  removed it, tried replacing it, but it seems that the battclock hardware has been messed up from the corrosion. :-(

anyway, be sure to keep all the original screws, because one knows these aren't mint anymore without the original fasteners. :-)

also!  if you haven't already, read warren block's a4000 hardware guide.  definitely useful information for newcomers to the a4000...

Congrats, i have been searching for one too but that seems to be a very hard task here in Finland.
