Quite an enterprising young college student.
Too bad we couldn't see AROS attempt this...or OS4.

Yes, very enterprising.  Offer vapor for donations...  As I said before, I seriously doubt that Nintendo left the old exploits in the system.

Edit: just read more.  This guy is really pie in the sky for his yet un-released Linux for his yet un-released system.

Can I play backup games using WiiLi?

    * Yes you can play backup games using WiiLi by using an external USB storage device, like a thumb drive or external HD. We need to be very clear we don't tolerate piracy. Any page containing links to illegal downloads will be deleted and the user will be banned.

Wow, so he's single handedly cracked the Wii copy protection without ever touching the system?  Remarkable!
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Yeah, alot of his info is off but the fact is that the GC has linux and if there is some exploit to the Wii..it will be either via it's WiiConnect24 downloadable updates or GC backwards compatibility...

I imagine the laser POT can be tweaked to read DVD-r's just like the GC's could be...

If a DVD-playing Wii is released in Japan, then no tweaks will be needed there.

Just look at how the PSP has been exploited via it's updater...

Heck, I wouldn't be suprised if I could solder in my Qoob Pro in there and launch code from my SD card...

I also see a XenoCD drive chip in Wii's future...

Now, this Wii Startup disc that comes with the system is quite interesting...  Someone needs to stick it in a modded GC and stream it to an ISO and hope that it's less that 1.4GB of useable data on it.

That's probably the best bet.  Especially if they use encryption like on the GCN.
