There was a time I can remember computers were fun...I miss my A1200.

Is it such a good idea to get a PPC card now that the AmigaOne's are on sale? The AmigaOne's will probably be much cheaper, and definately heaps faster (no classic-amiga bottlenecks)..

I'm trying to find a CyberstormPPC price on google.com and not having much luck, so I cant really back up my "much cheaper" statement with facts.. but why would you want a PPC card over an AmigaOne?

My cyberstorm 060 just died and I dont know if it is the 060 chip or the card it is mounted in, but if I have to buy another processor I would rather upgrade than down grade because I cant find another 060 card. also I really want to use my toaster card, and I am not sure if I want to run out and purchase the new amiga right away, I may waite 6 months to a year befor I buy, I want to see what how the new amiga do.

Searches on google and Ebay turned up nothing.  At this stage in the game, I'd just order the SE board, and wait for the bridgeboard to debut.  It will most likely be cheaper, and then you can have your cake and eat it too. ;-)
Have you hugged your KennyR or Paul Gadd today?

Hey WarPiper!

It's no problem to get a PPC for your 4000, you could even
get another 060 if you wanted.

kdh-shop.de or also vesalia.de

They are both in Germany, but I just ordered a board from
KDH about a month ago and I can say that they are very good.
They will answer all of your questions and even special order the board
if they don't have it.

PPC boards are expensive, but these guys are your best bet.
With shipping and memory it was still 100USD cheaper than the cost
of just the board here.

Yeap, that confirms it.. cyberstormppc 233mhz+060 50mhz for virtually the same price as an AmigaOneXE motherboard. :/

It's a pity your toaster cant be utilized on an AmigaOne. :/

Why not have both?:) Even if I ever get a new Amiga
I'll still keep my old hardware.

And the price of a PPC for the 4000 is still less than the
A-1 overall, because he can just buy the card and drop it in,
as opposed to buying a case and video cards and drives...
Not to mention the use of his toaster...

Overall a Cyberstorm would still be roughly 1/3 the cost of an
A-1 system.

I believe I just saw a CyberStorm MK-II on eBay yesterday.  Might be gone by now, but it's worth a search.

Seeing as how you're in the US, have you looked at Compuquick.  I think they have them at $880 or so.  I got mine from there.  Now personally, I wouldn't get one at this point either with the AmigaOne being cheaper and better.

Hi all,
This is a bit off topic, but someone might be able to help me.

I just received my new 2nd hand CyberstormPPC board from the USA,
thanks Amibench :-)

Board seems to work fine, I'm using it to type this, but software's
giving me grief.

After the OS 3.9 original or BB2 ROM update has been loaded, the
computer just keeps resetting, the power LED flashing constantly.
Works OK if I don't do a ROM update, but then I can't access big disk
partitions.

It worked OK on my last PPC board (which died) so must be an old
version of flash ROM in this board, or something to do with the
early startup software config.
In the "system" section, MapROM is set to disabled, computer doesn't
boot with it enabled.
What do you other CyberstormPPC users have it set to?

Anyone have any suggestions what I'm doing wrong??

Anthony.

And if anyone was wondering if there's a good place to get Amiga &
Cyberstorm repairs done, try:

http://www.amiga.fr
info@amiga.fr

They're very good with repairs which aren't hideously complicated and
don't require specialist parts from DCE, who won't supply them.

Unlike DCE they also charge a fair price and actually reply to
emails!!
