Video Toaster/Flyer HD's

I am thinking of buying some replacement HD's for a Toaster/Flyer system and wonder if there is a size limitation for Flyer drives?  Also, I am assuming that the 147gb 80pin SCSI drives I have looked at can be converted to 50pin SCSI to connect to the Flyer card?

Anyone here still using their Flyer systems know these answers?

I seem to have forgotten more than 50% of my Amiga and Toaster/Flyer knowledge that I had aquired over the years past.  :-?   It sucks growing old!

One potentially cheaper route to go is to buy some ide to scsi adapters (not necessarily cheap) but it gives you a lot of flexibility in terms of being able to easily and cheapily replace drives. The biggest problem is finding them. I see them pop up on ebay and they are usually $70-$80 if memory serves.

At which point it is cheaper and easier to buy some SCSI drives off ebay.

36GB drives can be had for peanuts...

Shame there was never a RAID card for the Amiga though

I personally have two 36gig and some 9gig Segate cheetah SCSI drives hooked up to my Flyer and they work just great the other nice thing is you dont need to "short stroke" them as there fast enough to use the entire 36gig in high quality mode. I have even tried an 80gig SCSI that I am using in my PC at the moment and that also worked.

The 80/68 to 50 pin adapters are easy to find on ebay and are cheep (around $8 each).

Your right about the SCSI to IDE adapters its not cost effective to do as they are around $70 each and you have to have one for each drive so that can get far more costly then just getting several 36gig or larger SCSI drives. A 36gig drive will give you more than 3hrs of video in HQ mode
