Cybervision 64/3d on Amiga 2000
« on: October 30, 2006, 12:15:24 PM »
Hi, I just got a CyberVision 64/3D from Softhut. I'm using it on an Amiga 2000 w/2630 accelerator. I have installed the CybergrapixV4 software. I use it together with a HP L1902 LCD monitor. But no matter which resolution I try, I don't get output to my LCD monitor. The monitor works perfect with the Indvision Scandoubler from Softhut.
I don't get any errors either. What do I do wrong?

regards,
Jon

Load up screenmode (or the CGFX equiv) to change the default workbench driver for screen to use CGFX rather than the Amiga Chipset drivers.

Make sure you have no other Zorro II memory other than the 4MB on the A2630 and it should work.  If there is other ZorroII memory (e.g. on an A2091 scsi card), there will be a conflict with the 4MB needed for the Cybervision3d.  The video card should also be in the first slot, if possible.  The A2630 (unless you can find a DKB 2632 board) is probably a poor choice with a Cybervision64/3d, as the 4MB on the board is limited to the 8MB Zorro2 memory space and there is no true 32-bit memory.  I'd suggest another accelerator with true 32-bit memory, like a GVP Combo 030/040/060, IVS Vector 030, Cyberstorm 040/060, RSA Fusion Forty, CSA Derringer or PP&S040.

There is also the possibility that the card is just not compatible with standard ZorroII.  DCE made some 'fast Z2' cards for the Apollo Z4 board that run at 2x speed in special Z2 slots for that board.  These Cybervision boards afaik won't work in a 'normal' Z2 slot, say in an A2000.  iirc, Software Hut said that the boards they have will work in an ordinary A2000, so it's probably the first problem above.  If not, get in touch with the Hut.

Personally, I found using the CV64/3D in my A1500 with GVP-GForce 030 too slow to be usable. Even in 800x600 8bit, anything that drew to the screen was reeeeallly slow.

This was a Phase 5 CV64/3D. In Zorro III slots it performed much better.

I've had the exact same problem for about a year; I have been trying to buy an appropriate accelerator for about as long be prepared to spend between 200-350 dollars for an appropriate accelerator. I'm about ready to give up and sell everything.
Couldn\\\'t afford an amiga then can\\\'t afford one now.

On the A2000 you have to use enorcer to get the CV64/3d to work with Cybergraphics V3. so I guess you may have to use it on V4 to.
You can also try P96 but I did find that terrible slow of some reason.

And the CV64/3d dont work with "Fusion forty", probably because FF do not follow all the hardware specifications that it should....

Thanks for a lot of good suggestions. My config is:
Kickstart 3.1
C=2630 w/4MB 030,882
then from first Z2 slot:
Cybervision 64/3D
Buddha Flash Gold Edition
X-Surf3
KickflashOS4

Is the enforcer software inlcuded in the CyberGFX4 package?
regards,
Jon

Just saw an IVS Vector030 go for $150 on eBay yesterday.  That's about the going price of a 68030 board with 16+MB of 32-bit RAM for the A2000.  Better yet, every now and then a GVP/Tekmagic060 or a Blizzard 2060 will pop up and sell for around $300.  Keep looking and don't be afraid to bid snipe.

Just got it working after putting the Enforcer in Startup-Sequence below SetPatch. Working good.
Thanks for all help.

Another question:
Should I buy Amiga3000 or Amiga4000?

regards,
Jon

4000 of course. The 3000 is pretty good with Z3 slots, and the built in VGA.  Bt it is ECS, and the box is pretty small, and ZIP ram chips are hard to come by.
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.

But on the other hand if you are planning to use a gfx card and not to play too many games then the A3000 might be your thing  :-) Personally I prefer the AGA chipset of the A4000 because of my admiration for demo's
