A500 Serial Number "000003"
« on: October 23, 2006, 03:57:13 AM »
Hey all,

Well, I stumbled upon an interesting observation tonight when I pulled my A500 out of the garage... the serial number is 000003.

Anybody have any info as to what this might mean? I purchased this thing factory "refurbished" from SoftHut sometime in the early nineties, it has a later Rev 6 motherboard, and according to the label was made in the Phillipines.

Obviously, this can't be the 3rd A500 produced, but I'd still be interested in hearing what anyone has to say about it.

cheers

Damion

Maybe it's the third one made in the Phillipines. I've got an A500 made in the USA and one made in Hong Kong. The serial numbers are different formats. They probably used different serials for different countries.

Makes sense. Well, that's kinda cool. Maybe I'll ebay it in 20 years and see what happens. ;-)

Many examples with 000001 (or like) have been floating around - probably they were press test examples.

Softhut is/was in Pennsylvania, near the old CBM factory.  It could be a press machine sent out for reviews, or a machine CBM used as a demo at shows to introduce the machine.

I'd keep it.  I think I still have a Supramodem around here with serial number 2.

Cocerning Nr. 1... I've known quite some people having had an A500 with 1 as their serial number. They don't seem that uncommon.
Amiga 1200, Mirage Tower, PC-Key 1200, Blizzard 1260/50, SCSI Kit, 256MB RAM, 40GB HD, Mediator SX, Soundblaster 128, Voodoo 3 and Realtek 8139.
