Hi All !!
« on: October 20, 2006, 09:22:37 PM »
Well, after er, a few years MIA from the Amiga front I'm comming back in for the kill... (ok, it's friday night and i'm halfway to oblivion, thanks PKNT Chardonnay;)

Get this...I'm gonna drive a few miles this weekend and help "move" a LOAD of Amiga stuff from someone who simply can't use it anymore.  Load up the car, back to mine, time to relive the old days. Nice.

He did mention he had the old monitor(s) printer(s) A1200(s) etc. etc. plus 8 (!) boxes of games ! (no more exclamation marks, honest).!

So, a short drive back to Amiga heaven.

I must admit I did mess with the pc emulators but they just didn't cut it with me - I need to smell the heat from an Amiga that's been on for 24 hours playing Thunderhawk (anyone got that still?)

Anywho, back to the vine....

C'ya

Steve. :madashell:

Cheers, i'm surprised at the quick replies.

Re. on fire, do you mean the smillie?  Thought that summed up the "how I look right now" pic ;)

Yeah, Thundehawk, chopper game (you guessed it) mission based, decent fmv and from what I remember a good game - back in my student days. cue a smillie which represents, er, smashed.... ;-}=

Anyway, I do hope this gent has a load of decent games/software I can get my teeth into - sick of pc overclocking (gets boring after a while).

Whatcha listening too at the mo?  Me? Thanks for asking, i'm listening to Stone Temple Pilots, Purple Album, I'm feeling retro tonight.

Here comes another bottle....

welcome!   pull up a chair and get a bottle out!

Your right, i find the real thing much nicer to play and hear,  nothing can beat the real sound of an Amiga booting up and playing your favourite intro to Turrican3.  Emulators just can't match the real sound of any game i've played including c64 emulators!  ;)

Ah, C64 emu's, my god...

I dl'd one a while ago and it worked ok so off I went playing boulderdash for about 5 hours...Note to self "must get a life"...

Paradroid, is that one of the best games ever?  And Paradroid 90 too on the amiga.  Thats a game they should re-invent.
Prob. end being a fps needing next years pc to play it on though...

I can't believe there's people here answering my messages on a Friday !  C'mon, why aren't you out at the pub etc???

Re. the sound of an Amiga booting, I had an emu which emu'd the sound of the drives !!  WTF !!!!  Now thats what I call emulation !

Please remove/replace the batteries if you get an amiga containing a barrel battery.

And welcome to amiga.org :)

@stevezx7r

Andrew Braybrook was fantastic at creating games,  Uridium and Paradroid were excellant games.

Have you seen the remake for 3d version of Paradroidz

http://www.jpct.net/paradroidz/download.html

Ok it's a windows version and Linux but hey i'm sure it's worth a look at.

Last Ninja was my favourite game on the C64, and Marble Madness on the Amiga although frustrating to play!!
I still remember roadwars and space ranger on the Amiga classic's.

Got some mates here so we having a few drinks whilst multitasking on the net, tv and few games..lol

Nice one, have one on me !!

Re the remakes, no, not seen em yet, but gonna look after this.

Last Ninja, now thats a game...I almost tried to simulate the music in words but thought, nope, you know how it sounds anyway!

Marble Madness, not my cup of tea, I never had the dexterity for that one, roadwars i don't remember but Space Ranger I do, that's another one I never got along with...Yeah, silly me...everyone I knew at the time loved it.

Does anyone remember Gribleys?  I know it was on the c64 but hey, were getting retro here!

BTW, anyone remember Oli Frey - He was the artist responsible for the outstanding Zzap!64 covers.......

I agree, Braybrook was the best at music.  Another human audio sample coming up......

Hi stevezx7r,

Welcome to Amiga.org

Yes most of the Amiga line used batteries for the clock memory as well as on the A3000 it was used to "remeber" certian settings for bootup.
The Batteries were the old nicad ones and will leak and dammage the board around it and if not cleaned up will cause ireversible dammage to components on the board.
with the ecception of the A3000 the battery is not nessisary as the time has no barring on how the Amiga works.
Alot of us have replaced them with the coin style batteries but you must do it right as the Amiga tryes to charge it and this can cause it to heat up and burst causing even more dammage.
I myself bought a Lithium Ion rechargable coin battery and then its just a mater of soldering a proper holder to the spot where the old one was and works great without having to worry about replacing it again.
Amiga 2000HD Indivision ECS
Amiga 4000D towerised OS 3.1 and 3.9 on CF cards
Indivision AGA, Mediator 4000
Video Toaster 4000 Flyer v4.3 Millenium.
202gig of video drive space & 5gig audio.

Dropzone !!!!!!  F*** Me !!! I haven'e even thought of that for YEARS !!!!  That was the old (cue fox-whistle sound effect) remake of something I can't remember game.

Me and my brother were well into these games, we graduated on the 64 where everyone else at the time was on the speccy.

Re. Zzap 64, yeah me too, remember the STORY...the ...something man...he was on fire...crashed space ship....very japanese feel to it, olly frey again, v. good art work.  Just remembered...The Terminal Man.  I think I saw it somewhere re-issued online, the whole story too.....

BTW, just played a quick game of Paradroid, if you like the original, you'll like this too !  Not bad at all, D'ld it, run the bat file, play and look at those pollies !!!!

Ok, it's not HL2 but hey !
