Birds of Prey Install
« on: October 19, 2006, 02:12:15 PM »
Greetings,
Anyone know how to install the game 'birds of prey' onto hard disk using the on-disk bopinstall tool?? Just picked up a copy of the game which only came with the Amiga/PC manual but not the Amiga specific summary card that has loading instructions, key commands etc.
Thanks

Yeah i've got the keyboard pullout sheet here with installation instructions. Btw i'm quoting verbatim from the instructions not just treating you like an idiot with the following :-D

Quote
To Install Birds Of Prey on a hard disk:
1. Boot your Amiga as you normally would.
2. Insert your Disk 2 into drive DF0:.
3. If your hard disk window isn't open, double-click on the hard disk icon to open it.
4. Double-click on the CLI or Shell icon to open a Command Line Interface (CLI) window.
5. Type CD DF0: and press Return.
6. Type BOPINSTALL followed by the path to the drawer you want to store the game in. For example, if you wanted to install the game on a hard disk named DH0:, you'd type BOPINSTALL DH0: If you wanted to install the game in a drawer named GAMES on DH0, you'd type BOPINSTALL DH0:GAMES/
7. Follow the onscreen instructions.

There, right from the horses mouth... or manual in this case

To load Birds Of Prey
1. Double-click on the drawer in which you installed Birds of prey.
2. Double-click on the BOP icon. The game loads and the title screen appears. Click a mouse button or press any key to continue.

hope that's everything you'd need.

My favourite flight simulator. It's a pity that its sequel (It is called ATAC, i believe) didn't make it to the Amiga platform...

Anyway, many years ago, i remember that i managed to install the game to my HD after hours of trying. It wasn't easy and i don't remember how i did it, but i think that the BOP installer didn't work for me.

Would you not be better off using the excellent WHDLoad install for the game?

Is there one? Seems a bit odd to have a WHDLoad for a game that came with an installer?

@ AJCopland

WHDLoad for games already having a hard disk install is quite helpful. It's infinitely more compatible with expanded systems and it usually bypasses manual protection as well.

Thanks Andy I know have Birds of Prey installed on my hard drive. :-)
Might have to try WHLoad as it seems to be the answer to everything game related! Here's hoping the A570 that's on it's way to me works and I can finally easily transfer stuff off the net.

Glad you got it all sorted. It was just luck that i'd got hold of the full boxed game the very same day you made you're post  :-D
