a1200 motherboard revision
« on: October 16, 2006, 10:25:17 PM »
A quick question, I know there was something about the revision of a1200 boards. It had to do with compatibility of certain hardware, I think ppc boards? Or kickstart roms?

Can someone help me out? I now have a revision 1D.1, I seem to recall having sold my 1D.4 once, why did I do that? :D

And do I now have a 'good' revision?

1.D.4 suffers from timing problems (unless you get a dealer to fix it).  The timing problems cause instability with high end add-ons

1.D.1 is a good revision to have.

the problems with the revisions are to do with timing errors.  Though I have found it hit and miss.  I have had mobos that have reported problems with certain accelerators and they have been fine.  I think from memory you only really need work if you intend using an accelerator that is at least an 040.

im sure some kind person will post a link to a page that gives you all the info on the revisions and the fixes that may need to be done.

Im lucky I have got a 1A and never has any problems with it

Can the timing problems cause minor graphical glitches on for example a 2b? Mine is stable, but i have noticed some minor gfx glitches in certain situations. This is not very noticable and only happens in specific situations.
But is the timing error the cause or is there something else that might be causing it?

Intersting. My 1D4 A1200 was very stable with a B1260 and an IDE-Fix Express, but I do recall having problems with CD icons not showing up, sometimes I'd have to reset the machine a few times to get them to show up.

I wonder what the timing fix involves?

@-D-

No idea, but the fixes you can find in the pd, Aminet, etc. are not what Eyetech do/did. They have stated that their fix is a proprietory solution not available elsewhere. (?)

JaX

[EDIT: I have an unfixed A1200T/1D4 and have never had any of the issues described by Eyetech. However, the addition of a Mediator Z4 bus may have highlighted one. I tried and tried to run my PIV/ZII and a pci Voodoo 5 together but without success. After much to-ing and fro-ing of emails, Elbox concluded there was a timing issue between the two cards. So atm it's running on the V5 alone.]

Back in the day,  i purchased a phase 5 bizzard 603e+ from power computing, when i plugged it into my amiga tech (1.d4) a1200 it wouldnt start up, damn shame really, i had to send it back and get an apollo 040 card instead!

How would one go about fixing the problems now? is it doable with a reasonable level of experience with a soldering iron?
