Pegasos Smartfirmware / MorphOS
« on: May 19, 2003, 08:16:40 PM »
Hello people,

An update:

After a rather wild weekend, it's time to have another bash at getting my Pegasos going.  :-)

I have been advised that my debug files show that Quark starts up OK and to enable all EDebugFlags and QDebugFlags.

I'm guessing that this is the command to do this:

boot /pci/cd boot.img QDebugFlags=all EDebugFlags=all

I can't see anything obvious in the log files though.

Still plugging away..... :-P

It's now looking like an incompatible CD-ROM or a bad CD.

Hmmm...I may try to partition the HD from my amiga.
Or download another "boot.img" and burn it to a CD.

I've also noticed that I seem to be getting two different debug logs. One finishes with some info. on Quark, the other without.
I'm not changing anything between them, which is strange.

Oh well - still no reply from #Morphos.

You may have just mistyped, but the command is:
boot /pci/ide/cd boot.img

you are missing the ide.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Doesn't seem to make any difference.  :-(

-edit-
Anyone confirm that this part: "QDebugFlags=all EDebugFlags=all" is correct?

Make sure you have the right cables.  Also, double check to make sure the CD is set to "master" and is on the second ide channel.

See if that will help.

Master on the secondary? i thought it HAD to be slave on the primary? I have mine as a slave on the primary.

The standard if you have an HD and CDROM is to put the HD on the primary as master and CDROM on the secondary as master. This is how my setup is. You don't really want to put them on the same bus anyway - the CDROM will probably slow the HD down in that case.

The documentation is lacking a LOT! and its not easy to figure out everything youreself! but to me that seems to be a CD-rom problem! just as with the RAM not every cd rom seems to be usable on the Peg a sad fact! try another one! might also be the ide cable! are you sure you have the right one? you might wanna read trough this a bit http://www.morphos-news.de/help.php?lg=en&id=inst

Well, I have UDMA cables for both HDD and CDROM. I've also tried every combination of jumper settings and channel settings - but I'll try again.

I've tried three. One of them was five years old and was not recognised. The other two produce exactly the same results.

When I do it this way, it seems to hang before Quark starts.
With the CDROM on CS it also seems to hang at this point.
With the CDROM set to slave it seems to start Quark before hanging.

-edit-
I tried this repeatedly last night and it seems to be random whether Quark starts or not, as does the appearance of the "zlib" error message.

Can *anyone* tell me if this is the correct command to enable debug flags?

Please?  :-D

:-?

I have no idea. I have never had the reason to think about that, so I know absolutely nothing about the debug options. Everything just worked for me. Sorry.

Drop a letter on the BT2 mailinglist!

Hope you get it to work soon. I know how frustrating it is when you can't use the new things you bought. :-(

(BTW, you said you tried several CD-ROMs in every thinkable IDE combinations. My completely unqualified guess is that your problems is memory related ...)
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :)
