Syncmaster 150MP on ebay
« on: October 09, 2006, 02:52:06 AM »
Doing a little browsing on Ebay, I ran across a Samsung Syncmaster 150MP, listed on BBOAH as an Amiga compatable LCD monitor (syncs @ 15KHz). EBAY LINK

edit: Found a 170MP HERE too.

Mac Mini 1.5GHz, that might run MorphOS someday, when the fools who own it come to the realization that 30 minutes just isn\'t enough time to play with it enough to decide whether or not you like it enough to cough up $200.

 - Someone please design SOME kind of DIY accelerator for the A4000. :D -

So any of the LCD TVs should be a good monitor for the Amiga, eh?

Not necessarilly, I'd check with BBOAH for confirmed working monitors first. Unless of course you're feeling experimental.

edit: As I understand it, it has to be the 150MP, 151MP, 170MP or 171MP Syncmasters... I don't think the other versions (v, s, t, etc.) work.

Ok, let me rephrase my original post... There are several Syncmaster 15xMP and 17xMP LCD monitors (15" and 17" respectively) on Ebay right now.  :-D

25ms is considered a bit "slow", although, there's no "definitive" standard on how to measure response time.

My panel is rated at 25ms, and while there IS streaking at times, it's not excessive and doesn't bother me. (Certain colors will smear more than others.) However, I have seen panels rated as having a "faster" response time that smear more. It's also a bit subjective, what looks great to me may be unacceptable to you.

Another thing to consider, these monitors use older TN panels (circa Y2K), so the viewing angles, color, and contrast (referring to "black point" here) are only going to be "OK" compared to more modern panels. They should be great for amiga games, though.

Found an overall positive review on the 170MP here, they say "no visible streaking". (I'd take that with a grain of salt, but once again I doubt it's excessive. Might be a good unit at the right price.)

I have a SyncMaster 515v, and I've tried it on my Amiga... no dice.

Also, it has a refresh rate of 16 ms -- perfect for games.

I was always curious... how many ms must a tft be to reach CRT display? 6? 10? 3?
I have seen modern 3ms tft's...

It's doubtful LCD tech will ever reach the response time of CRTs. 3ms is only "gray to gray", other color transitions are actually quite a bit slower. Decent CRTs are (IIRC) far less than 1ms across the board. PCWorld article here.

LCDs have come a long way though... pixel response has become fast enough for most, and LED backlighting will improve the color gamut to at minimum the levels of good CRTs.

SED on the other hand will be a different story... response time and contrast of CRTs, digital control of pixels and no flicker aspects of LCD.
