Voodoo 3 3000..
« on: October 08, 2006, 08:59:40 PM »
Hi,

I'm not really having problems with my Voodoo, but i'm having problems running alot of software. ScummVM 0.7.1 ran perfectly on my PIV, but with my Voodoo i can only run it in Windowed mode, and it's very slow. Warp3D demos crash, but Freespace works like a charm (slow though). Could there be somthing wrong with my Voodoo monitor driver. I followed the instructions provided with my MMCD, but it doesn't seem to be stable. Everything running on the Voodoo hung for a split second everytime LimpidClock counted a second. hen i shut down LipidClock it stopped hanging.. Wierd..

Any ideas? I would really love to run ScummVM with my Voodoo..

EDIT:

I think it might have something to do with my screenmodes, as when i remove the PIV monitor driver, i get "Cannot find suitable screenmode" when starting ScummVM in fullscreen. So apparently it just started using the PIV instead of the Voodoo. Does anybody know what screenmodes i need? I have 320x240x8 and 320x200x8.

When i try to run PVS it tells me, "No Picasso96 monitor driver found". I cannot run Earth demo either, judt get a white screen.

PS: I have my Mediator set up to use both the PIV and the Voodoo (Fast4mb i think".

You are obviously running Picasso96 v2.0...

If you grab a copy of Picasso96 v2.1b you will not get any problems with applications trying to automatically select screenmodes... (such as Earth 2140, PVS, ShowAmiga96 and so on).

PVS does however exist in a newer version to be found on AmiNet, which will solve that very issue... but the main problem is currently within the Picasso96API.library and emulation.library... which is updated in Picasso96 v2.1b (but you seem to have more problems than only with applications automatically trying to select screenmodes, though).

If you already have Picasso96 v2.1b installed, well, then I have not got the slighest clue as of what might be wrong.
Amiga 1200, Mirage Tower, PC-Key 1200, Blizzard 1260/50, SCSI Kit, 256MB RAM, 40GB HD, Mediator SX, Soundblaster 128, Voodoo 3 and Realtek 8139.

If Legerdemain's advice doesn't help, are you sure you haven't got something running in the background that is incompatible with the Voodoo/Picasso? Could be a clock program, or a screenblanker. Try disabling anything you are running from WBStartup/User startup etc, and see if that helps, if it does, re-eanble them one at a time.

Installing Picasso96 v2.1b didn't help.. I used ModePro on ScummVM and it worked, but the Voodoo was alot slower then the PicassoIV (!?).. I'm currently reinstalling OS3.9 from scratch, and notice that not even the EmergencyDisk chooses the Voodoo as standard. My system hung when installing AmiStart so i thought i might aswell treat it to a fresh install.. As i haven't installed anything but OS3.9 and the PicassoIV driver.. Does with a working Voodoo3 setup and maybe a monitordriver to go with it help me set this up (tell me wich programs and files i need) I would greatly appreciate it!!
